I was wondering if this was ever gonna come to fruition. This team is in peril. There's some serious rebuilding that needs to take place down in the MI. I don't think anyone, even D-Wade, is a guaranteed to be on the squad next year.

Dude let it go.

I guess getting a team a championship destroyed the team. Pat Riley Destroyed the Heat by not getting any younger players in and some help for D-Wade and Shaq at the start of the season. Besides Shaq and D-Wade you could not tell me who else is on that team.

Miami was set up in a win now situation, and they did in 2006. With the age on that team, it should be no surprise that they have fallen off this much.

Here are some comments from the ESPN article.

http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/3372092

quote:
You guys are so stupid. Riley is not only one of the best coaches in NBA history. He is also one of the best PLAYOFF coaches. RILEY was the reason the heat won the NBA championship in '06. He assembled the team, not SVG. He had his chance in '05 and was outcoached by Larry Brown. Riley OUTCOACHED Avery Johnson in the '06 finals. The Mavs were a better team until Riley came up with a magnificent gameplan after being down 0-2 in the series. Riley gets a "free pass" because HE HAS WON TITLES. Isaiah Thomas last time I checked has never had a winning SEASON.

quote:
Pat Riley = Isaiah Thomas without the media scrutiny and villification.

I hate to say it, but if Pat were a black coach, people would have been screaming for his head a long time ago.

quote:
This is really unbelievable. I can't wait for the Heat to pick up a good young coach, pick up a new young player, have the heat be good again, then send the coach packing so Riley can take over. They should just make this part of the new coaches contract: "If the team has a chance of winning the championship, regardless of whether in mid season or between, you will be fired so that Pat Riley can coach the team" Thanks, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

quote:
Only 9 different NBA organizations have won The NBA Championship in the last 28 years. Look at the Hawks, Clippers, Bucks, Wizards, Grizzlies and many other teams who haven't figured out how to compete and build a championship team. Riley has kept the Heat near the top for most of his 13 seasons there. Not sure why everyone is a hater. This guy is a motivated and aggresive winner. Lets hope he sticks around to build another championship team. Spoelstra will bring fresh blood to the table and the Heat will rise again!!!

quote:
He's such a pompous ####. In the NBA, the only coaches the players listen to are those who have the status whereby the players know they won't get fired - Riley, Phil Jackson, Sloan. So, he got lucky by being the coach of arguably 3 Top 15 players of all time - Magic, Jabbar, Shaq, plus some other damn good ones - Ewing, Wade, Worthy. Right place at the right time for this jerk, who I hope never resurfaces.

quote:
Wow, he doesn't want to coach them in the first place, then they get Shaq, then he takes credit for Stan Van Gundy's hard work, then they get bad, then he quits? How can he be considered an all-time great coach? I could win multiple championships too if I got to coach Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal, and Dwyane Wade.

I agree too. Pat Riley came back to coach because of Shaq. Therefore Shaq destroyed the Heat.

Laugh

They were pressing to make the old azz Shaq trade work so they overloaded with age and experience...Shaq's salary.

Shaq gave up on the team and played as if he were hurt. He wanted to be traded and no longer liked it in Miami. As soon as he got to Pheonix, he was healthy all of a sudden. I hope they get their azz waxed.

Laugh

I laughed this past weekend with a buddy about just the same thang ... Only instead of Shaq I broguht up his equally shammin' teammate who used to be over there with you in the ORL who now is the picture of health. I was so hoping that the Spurs would have swept them, because they are a fraud now, and hopefully are really gonna be exposed for the frauds they are next year.

They are just proving that Pheonix is indeed where old, broken down folks go to retire!

Riley and the whole Heat Org should give all their Season Ticketholders at least a 25% season discount next year, because they flat out quit on the season months ago.

This isn't a Shaq issue, it's a Pat Riley is a CREEP issue. Shoot

Riley made the dumb decision to pay Brian Grant all of that money.

Pat quit on the Heat the year they started 0-7 or whatever it was. Van Gundy came in and rallied the troops, they over-achieved, and made the playoffs.

Riley fired...I mean suggested Van Gundy spend more time with his family once he realized he had a championship caliber squad. BTW Shaq was a big part of that squad.

Now dude's running again because he can't see his way out of this mess.

Indeed, this is a much bigger Pat Riley issue than a Shaq issue. Riley saw how Jerry West built championship teams in Los Angeles. He should have known that after the 2006 season that the Heat would be aging team. This is Riley's fault much more than it is Shaq's.
