i wish they did too. but fielding a football team is not an inexpensive proposition, it’s by far the most expensive sport to fund of all ncaa sports. during the final years of umes' football team, they had difficulty winning games which reduces attendance and revenue, and probably became a financial liability. an hbcu should not be penalized for maintaining fiscal soundness by eliminating a financial burden…

It's a shame that few people understand the comment you made about football. Consider the fact that college football just is not big in Baltimore and you'd have a receipe for disaster to suggest that Coppin add a football team. We have enough struggles without that addtional burden.

But Coppin AND Morgan can make football big in Baltimore! All it takes is some vision. All it takes is proper planning, the right donors and sponsors, and proper advertisements. Do you really think if Coppin had a football team, both Coppin and Morgan wouldn't sell out Hughes Stadium?

Let's be very honest for a second. You mentioned that all it takes is vision, planning, sponsors, and advertising. Neither school is currently doing that in basketball which is VERY big in Baltimore. And even if the administrations wake up one day and start doing those things for existing sports, I don't believe it makes good financial sense to field a football team. Too many "what if" questions and not enough "for sure" answers. It's not a smart gamble. Besides, we would we put a stadium? It's more important to use the liited, existing space for new classroom buildings, dorms, and parking.

And to answer your question, a game at Hughes would probably do well but we'd get about 750 at Coppin (including 500 Morgan fans).

I find it sadly ironic that members of a Negro college conference want to throw members out.Being that said schools in conference were created because the majority community did not want the members of said schools or university to intermigle and thus lead to those schools creation.

The MEAC is not in a position to lose any members we are stronger with the Coppins and UMES.They have strenghts that some of the larger lack.

How you gonna kick out the ONLY school to win a National Championship for the Conference in ANYthang in 30 years ...

Let alone the reigning Champs of the school that got your conference any mention of its existence by being your B-Ball Champs ... and on BOTH sides to boot?
