in a way, shine 3K is right:
the Hawks were 1st time, inexperienced, very young playoff team. Our performance on the road exemplified those facts. Bibby and Joe Johnson (by virtue of his playoff experience with the PHX Suns before he got traded to ATL) were the only playoff-tested players we have. According to Joe's bio, prior to this series he only had 15 games of playoff experience. Youth was exemplified: Josh Smith is only is his 4th year and came straight out of HS; Josh Childress is only is his 4th year removed from Stanford when he came out as an early entrant after his JR season. Marvin Williams left UNC after his FR year, and is only on year 3 of his NBA career. Acie Law and Al Horford just finished their rookie years. I am proud of them, and as a 30-year Hawk fan, I have hope for next year. lets address our needs with our draft (I think we only have a 1st round pick, traded our 2nd rounder for Bibby) and coach up the young guys. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

Actually, no picks this year. 1st round pick goes to Phoenix in the Joe Johnson trade. Childress and Josh Smith are restricted free agents and Woodson and Knight's contracts are up. So there will be alot decisions to be made. |

It took 7 games for the Celtics to close out a 37-45 team.
I give the young Hawks a lot of credit, but to me, the prolongation of this series is more of an indictment on the Celtics. I'm not saying the C's cannot make it to the championship round and perhaps win it, but it's ridiculous to have wasted a lot of energy and time on the Hawks, when there's Lebron and the Pistons still on the horizon. Doc Rivers, KG, Pierce and Allen should be embarassed - all need to step their game up. |

In another thread I predicted Boston wouldn't make it through the Eastern Conference. They are a very good team but this is they're first time as a unit in the playoffs where one or two players on the opposing team can make a big difference. Atlanta playing them so tough might actually work in their favor.

Blue Haze is right the Hawks have a lot of decisions to make in the offseason starting with Chill and Smith. The issue is they can only afford one and both turned down previous offers of $50 million. Whoever they sign and for how much will impact what happens next year when Marvin comes in to negotiate his contract. They won't get any help with the cap because both Chill and Smith weren't making anything roughly 2.5 and 2.0 mil respectively. Speedy Claxton has two years remaining on his $6 mil per contract and Bibby goes into his final year in 08-09. Salim Stoudamire is most likely in the wind but as a 2nd rounder he wasn't counting heavily against the cap. I'm not sure where Big Z Pachulia is contract wise he might have a year left. The Hawks are also trying to decide on whether or not to keep Woodson around who clearly demonstrated an inability to win on the road throughout his stint in Atlanta. And GM Billy Knight may also be on the hot seat for drafting and then later having to trade the #5 overall pick Shelden Williams this season to get Bibby. And to top all that off the ownership still needs to settle the dispute with Belkin. remember Belkin can veto any trade or FA signing that would incur a contract over 4 years in length. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." - Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945 |

PapaGrizzly,
For Knight to have gotten Mike Bibby for Sheldon Williams ----- HE DESERVES GM OF THE YEAR The Hawks are just a young team collectively. They need time to gel together - to start blowing things up and making multiple changes at this point in time isn't rise.... |

Folks have to realize that the Celtics, while a great team, really don't have a bunch of playoff experience. Yes, Pierce, KG, Posey and Allen have been to the playoffs, but they have not had a bunch of success or been to the dance a lot of times. Posey and Cassell are the only players on the roster to have played in the NBA Finals. Rondo and Perkins, House and the other role players have not. Not even Doc Rivers has a bunch of playoff experience as a coach with everyone stamping his team as the favorite. Boston is a veteran team with little playoff experience and that's why they struggled against the Hawks. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0216/nba_g_dhoward_412B.jpg |

N.O. has some players like Chandler and Peja and Bonzi Wells and others who have playoff experience. And they also have a coach who has played and coached in the NBA Finals. That counts for a lot. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0216/nba_g_dhoward_412B.jpg |
