Speaking of Clemens, I'm a little surprised in looking back through the last couple pages worth of threads dating back to Monday, that there isn't much mention of the beating Clemens has taken in the media since his 60 minutes interview and press conference Monday. Or mention of the fact that he and a couple other players were called to testify to Congress next month. I guess that 'Roger is the golden boy, everyone is going to look the other way' talk doesn't hold as much water now, does it?

Agreed. Its unfortunate that she had to go through this.

Damn, I am looking at Marion on TV right now. The judge has to be a racist or gay. No way you can send a fine azz woman who happens to be a sista to prison for a first offense that is minor. No way white woman as pretty as Marion go to prison on a first offense like this.

Laugh

Thumb Up Thumb Up

Last year, a few brothers were going crazy over that dike Pokey Chatman. I was like damn, some of you dudes like some ROUGH women. Handicap To ME, a "fine azz woman" is a woman like Sanaa Lathan, not Marion Jones.

Steve riddick is going to jail too

Later Friday, the judge sentenced Riddick, 56, to five years and three months in prison for his role in the check-fraud scam, less than what the sentencing guidelines recommended. Riddick also was given three years' probation and must pay back $375,000.

Once a star sprinter, Riddick, a member of the Hampton Roads African-American Sports Hall of Fame, has had plenty of ups and downs. He led Norfolk State to NCAA Division II championships in 1973 and '74. He anchored the U.S.' gold-medal-winning 400-meter relay team in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.

In 1995, he became track coach at NSU, and in December 1996 helped bring an international training center to Norfolk. But after athletes complained about the way the center was being run, the International Olympic Committee cut off financing to it in '98. In 1999, he was among the NSU coaches asked to resign for questionable travel-expense reimbursements. Riddick pleaded guilty to one count of forgery and got probation.

In June 2004, he resumed coaching one of his former NSU star sprinters, Tim Montgomery, who was embroiled in the BALCO case. In 2005, he started coaching Montgomery and Jones at Darling Stadium in Hampton. All of them ended up in various legal difficulty.

I called Marion to let her know I'm available for conjugal visits. Big Pimp

But seriously, Marion's biggest crime was failing to use common sense. after seeing how much drama her ex-husband CJ Hunter brought to her doorstep with his steroid use why on God's green earth would she overlook her new beau Tim Montgomery's use. And then to use it herself was the icing on the cake.

This type of dysfunctional behavior among black women has been discussed ad nauseum on this & other BBs. Why would she get involved with a bad check writing scheme? The Light should have gone on in her head to pull up.

Having said that sentencing a mother of a nursing infant is unconscionable given the sentencing recommendations were 0 to 6 months. The whole purpose of jail sentences is to serve as a deterrent to future acts. Justice wasn't served in this case. Marion Jones was deterred by the dragging of her reputation through the mud. The woman was disgraced beyond recognition. Her family has suffered equally. Her "crime" pales in comparison to that of Scooter 'no first name' Libby and yet he walks free having served less than 24 hours behind bars. What's the judicial equity in that?

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." - Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

No thats not entirely true. One of the primary purposes of criminal sentencing is to punish the offender.

Marion Jones enters federal prison, begins 6 months behind bars

By JEFF CARLTON, Associated Press Writer
March 7, 2008
DALLAS (AP) -- Marion Jones began her six-month sentence in federal prison Friday, punishment for lying to investigators about using performance-enhancing drugs and her role in a check-fraud scam.

The former Olympic track star turned herself in before noon Friday at Federal Medical Center Carswell, located on the Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Bureau of Prison spokeswoman Traci Billingsley said.

Under the terms of her sentencing, she had until Tuesday to surrender to prison officials.

Although the prison specializes in medical and mental health services, it also has inmates who do not require such care. Billingsley said she could not comment on whether Jones was receiving specialized care.

Jones won three gold and two bronze medals in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, becoming perhaps the most famous and marketable female athlete in the world.

After frequently denying ever having used performance-enhancing drugs, Jones admitted she had lied to federal investigators in November 2003. Jones also admitted lying about her knowledge of the involvement of Tim Montgomery, the father of her older son, in a scheme to cash millions of dollars worth of stolen or forged checks.

Jones was sentenced in January to six months of prison time and 400 hours of community service in each of the two years following her release. She was sentenced to six months on the steroids case and two months on the check fraud case, but was permitted to serve those sentences concurrently.

Federal Judge Kenneth Karas imposed the maximum sentence suggested in Jones' plea deal, ignoring her lawyers' request for a probation-only sentence. The check-fraud scheme was a major crime, and the wide use of steroids "affects the integrity of athletic competition," the judge said.

When will atheletes learn? I dont fault them for cheating. I know that sounds bad, but I dont. There are soooooooo many that cheat and dont get caught, you almost have to cheat in order to levy the playing field. Skewed logic I know. Honestly, I dont care if they cheat or dont cheat. I really dont. I they choose to warp/destroy their minds and body for the sake of athletic glory and riches, so be it. BUT...those riches come at a price. What good is it all if you aint here to spend it and you go down for the dirt nap decades before your time? Ask Flo-Jo the answer to that question.

What I fault Marion Jones for is lying in court. When she did that, she gave legal america free reign to give her a public enema up the arse and turn her misguided life in to a public spectacle. On that note, Clemens's arse needs to be put UNDER that jail for OPTING to take the stand to prove his name. If there was ANY remote hazy area concerning the issue, his legal council should have advised him to sit down and shut up. Given his ego, there is a good chance that they did. Now he is gonna get a public legal enema too. And, he deserves every last drop.

This just gets stranger by the week! And I love it.

Internal Revenue Service agents have contacted a former employee of a fitness center here as part of an effort to determine whether Roger Clemens obtained steroids or human growth hormone in the Houston area, where he lives, the former employee said.

Wednesday federal agents asked about the operation of Shaun Kelley Weight Control, as well as whether Clemens knew the center’s owner, Shaun K. Kelley.

Kelley, 46, is from a well-known family. His parents served on Houston’s city council in the 1990s, his brother Shannon Kelley is a former University of Texas quarterback, and the former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton is his sister-in-law.

As long as athletes think and feel they're above the law, they'll continue breaking it. Marion caused all this on her dog gone self and I don't feel bad for her at all. She knew right from wrong and she's getting off pretty easy IMO. The check incident would have fetched a regular joe more time than 6 months. Just my opinion though.

I think it important that everybody know exactly what the law says:

18 § 1001. Statements or entries generally
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—
(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.

Could you expound on that comment and why the US Black female athlete is being singled out? I'm not sure I see where you are coming from, so I'm not sure I can agree. How are Sanya and Allison impacted? Who will they lose respectability with, the casual fan, the event promoters, the marketers, the media? The latter 3 have already been answered throughout the 2007 season. This being an Olympic year, do you think the marketers are going to shy away from them? By the way, here is a link of doping violators in 2007...http://www.iaaf.org/mm/temp/080225_Results_Management_1040.pdf
I don't see any US Black women. I only see 2 dating back to 2005.
