can't speak for anyone else but personally, i'd hate to see them leave. in fact, i'd hate to see any meac member leave, especially an original founder.

say what you want about howard athletics, but i've been an aggie since '75, i've followed the league very closely ever since. i've competed in the meac, i've been to at least one sports event at every campus in the meac and after all these years, in my honest opinion, no meac school has been declared a "rival" by other meac schools more than howard! it seems howard is everyone's rival. to me, that says a lot.

they don't always have the largest crowds at football/basketball games, but no school "rubs it in your face" more than howard! no pa announcer pysses me off more than howard's! he can't just let you have it when they score, but you've got to hear his big mouth every time they get a freakin' first down!

as a matter of fact, seemingly because of the distance between the two, one of the most underrated rivalries in the league is a&t and howard. especially back in the day when both schools were at or near the top of the league in football and basketball (yeah, i know that's been quite a while). back then, even howard supporters traveled in droves to attend games in greensboro. and of course we've always and still do turnout big anytime we play in dc. howard is probably our biggest football/basketball rival outside of the state of north carolina. it use to be scsu in football until they moved our games to a neutral site. hopefully this year the a&t/scsu football rivalry will be reborn. i think this year will be the first time in a very long time that they've moved the a&t/scsu football games back on campus. football games "on campus" against scsu use to be automatic sellouts…

Crabs...? Not hardly.

For anyone of the conference's schools to think they have the resources or demand to leave for this so-called move upward, they are delusional. In this case 'delusional' = 'high and mighty'

Reality check. We all know some who have had theirs recently. Wink

Wow. So much for lifting each other up.

And, I am sure that my many relatives who have graduated from two of these schools who have gone on to have great careers in their chosen fields would tend to disagree.

"History is not a procession of illustrious people. It's about what happens to a people. Millions of anonymous people is what history is about." - James Baldwin

" ... the United States, for generations, has sustained two parallel but opposed states of mind about military atrocities and human rights: one of U.S. benevolence, generally held by the public, and the other of ends-justify-the-means brutality sponsored by counterinsurgency specialists. Normally the specialists carry out their actions in remote locations with little notice in the national press. That allows the public to sustain its faith in a just America, while hard-nosed security and economic interests are still protected in secret. ": Robert Parry, investigative reporter and author

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." - Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

yeah, but we've only played at their stadium every other year since they joined the meac in the 90's. that howard announcer must be an old school dude, seems like dude has been callin' their games forever! same dude! football and basketball! i've heard his mouth for so long i can hear dude in my dreams, "AND ITS FIRST DOWN AND TEN!" Shoot
i'll give dude credit though, he's smooth in basketball. he'll make a statement and pause in silence about 3 seconds before his last word. after the 3 second pause he'll whisper the final word… Laugh howard fans know what i'm talkin' 'bout...

Howard should stay. We love to talk smack but we need Howard. Most of our schools are emerging academically. In recent years we have seen our schools add great academic programs. Howard is still the academic standard that we all live up to. Howard is like the one brother in the chapter that makes us all a little more legit.

Academically? Yes, We always need an assistant King to the conference well I understand that you want to establish your own fiefdom. There can only be one king in the MEAC. Academically, it only leaves us in the MEAC. YUCK, maybe there on to something.

If Howard leaves that means we have to share a conference with Coppin, MESU, Del State and WSSU. Uh no thanks those schools suck.

Now the question is if Hampton leaves would you care? The MEAC would be hurt, but the MEAC will survive if Howard leaves, where are they going to go? Yeah right LOL.
that's a very arrogant comment. even though howard has had less success recently than hampton, i believe howard would be more missed IMO. i won't let this debate go in another direction by saying anything more than... Howard will definitely be missed if they were to leave. I think we all see certain schools as essential. as much as i hate to say, the 3 main members in the MEAC are NCA&T, FAMU, and Howard.
