She might be better than a lot of the boys but I don't beleive in mixed gender teams. I have an 11 year old daughter who can throw and punt a football further than any of the little boys in the neighborhood but I wouldn't dare let her play on a football team of boys.

I am the Director at The Hoop in Beaverton and wanted to let you know that Good Morning America (along with other medial outlets) are reporting false information involving the Jamie Nared Story. We (The Hoop) did NOT change the rules in the middle of a season. Our rules for the spring league have always been that we do not allow opposite genders to cross over into each other's leagues. Players can play up into higher divisions to give them the competition level they desire. These rules are consistent with AAU. The Hoop has no problem with boys and girls playing together when the league is marketed and sold to our customers as coed. But we will not change the rules, make exceptions or privilege athletes based off of their skill level. To report that we changed the rules based off of complaints is completely false. these kind of stories are not uncommon. the women’s game is no where near its peak and will continue to evolve indefinitely. this kid is only 12 years old, not even in high school yet and she’s already got a scholarship offer from oregon state. that’s pretty impressive…

I agree with decks. It could be problematic. If they have girls teams, let her play with the girls.

regarding the mixed gender issue, at 12 years old, it doesn’t harm anything at all except the male “ego“. lets be honest about this, moms and dads don’t want to see a girl outplay their son in a male dominant sport. i say, get over it! as they get older, the guys in general will ultimately grow to become bigger and stronger than most girls. so its not a permanent scar on the boys. let the girl play with the boys and leave the ego out of it…

Its a no win situation for the boys. if she is better, than the boys are soft. If she gets handled, than the boys are too rough, or they are supposed to do that to a girl. there's no way to get around EGO, because it's embedded in sports.

Not only that, but:

Why does everyone including Hillary want to overlook/circumvent the written rules? Confused

When I played little league baseball we had two girls in our league and one was on my team. At 12 years old it's ok for her to play with the boys everybody is still developing their skills. Once high school hits and the boys start getting stonger and more PHYSICAL, then it's time for a change.

I didn't see that.

If it's in the rulebook then...

Handicap come on now! it’ll “never” happen! when is the last time you saw a 7 foot 12 year old in the 6th or 7th grade? please, let’s keep fantasies out of this discussion…

Saw the story on CNN last week.
if it is in the [leauge and AAU] rules, its in the rules. The situation SOUNDS like the rules were abided by from the get-go, not a switcheroo once she started posterizing 12-year old boys Handicap Laugh

If her 12-year old girls b-ball counterparts aren't providing enough competiton, why can't she move up to the next level of competition? ... Isn't that what is typically done in most sports when one kid is clearly bigger than his/her peers who are the same age?
