Lincoln Univerisity is bringin football back. They may have the best home field you'll see in HBCU football (micro turf). Please note I did say field and not stadium (and the sad part is that it may be a local high school's field). My high school has this same turf and it cost a minimum of 400K. That's a huge commitment. Also, the new uniforms resemble the University of Miami. What does this say about the seriousness of Lincoln compared to the CIAA and HBCU football?

Check out their improvements below:

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (May 2, 2008) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania football team has unveiled its uniforms for the 2008 season, the Lions’ first in 48 years.

The uniforms were designed by Russell Athletics. The Lions will wear the orange jersey’s at home and the white uniforms on the road. Lincoln will play its first football game since 1960 against George Mason at home on Saturday August 30, 2008.

Confused Uuuuhhh...I don't know what it says, TightEye?

The uniforms are nice. I don't think that the stadium is theirs [I could be wrong] but just fielding an NCAA-sanctioned team is a good start.

But, I'm not really following the comparison or contrast of the CIAA schools and HBCU football.

Question

Question

I was thinking the same thing.

There are a few CIAA schools that have made serious strides in football recently. (St. Aug's, Shaw, and St. Paul's have recently fielded teams after a long hiatus)

Shaw - 2007 CIAA Champs

St. Augustines - First NFL draft pick ever this year.

My bad for the confusion, but have you seen any major commitments from any HBCU's lately?

1. FVSU promises a new stadium and then backs out

2. Tsu promises 2 million fieldhouse.....no broken ground

3. FAMU is adding a new Gym/SC but accrediation is still an issue

In other words, whose coming through with the goods?

As far as the CIAA it is still caught in a time warp that revolves around 1954 in football, but in basketball they are lightyears ahead of 80% of the NCAA reguarless of classification.

I think if Lincoln can afford it and keep most of its games after October in the south they will do O.K.

I feel you but look at these examples:

1. Morgan St - refurbishing Hughes Stadium.

2. WSSU - Brand New fieldhouse and scoreboard, and practice fields

3. VSU - numerous renovations to their stadium.

4. SCSU - new scoreboard and turf.

I think the good might outweigh the bad right now when it comes to progressive ideas in the HBCU football world.

Okay, I kinda see where you're going, TightEye.

The Wildcat alums have informed me that FVSU's stadium is just delayed another year, but it will be completed in time for the 2009 season. Not really a big deal, other things take precedence over sports.

As far as various new facilities go, hey, chit happens and delays happen. I don't really see that as a school NOT doing anything or not having a commitment.

As for the comparison of Lincoln and the CIAA, its kinda like apples and oranges. The CIAA toots itself as a basketball-first conference...or at least thats the impression I get from most of the CIAA posters over on Onnidan.Com.

Meanwhile, Lincoln is just getting started with football again.
