candace parker right now could play on “any” men’s team in the meac and probably start! some of you men may laugh, but let’s see you try to guard her. she’s 6’5” and can play all 5 positions. she’ll wipe that grin right off your face real quick…[/QUOTE]
I love Candace and women's basketball, but she couldn't start in the MEAC. Remember that the practice teams of boys that the top women's programs play against are just rec league guys and the ladies can't beat them (or just play them even). That's not a knock on the girls--just the truth. The women in the WNBA are real ballers---just not better head to head than college men......... |

All of ya'll are obviously co-signing on her beauty but, this isn't the first time the WNBA had someone turn heads for two reasons. Can anybody say...Lisa Leslie? From the same big market...got plenty of play in the media...and well....we're still looking for the "Saviour". That means it's not about "Dominance and Beauty", something else is missing. Something else needs to be present to take the WNBA to another level. Maybe they need ONE dominating team with several star players. Something like USC when they had Cheryl Miller and the McGhee twins. Three Bad Azz sistas throwing down. I still think that was womens hoops at it's peak. The WNBA need their Celtic/Laker dynasties to get folks on the "bandwagon". _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Howard U......Black America's University. |

i’ve coached women’s high school and aau basketball for over 15 years and i’ve personally scrimmaged against many of them. i’ve coached 3 aau teams that finished top 3 in the “nation” 3 consecutive years! i’ve coached my daughter for many years who is a first team d1 all southern conference point guard who led the “nation” in steals as a freshman! i’ve attended some of the wnba’s mystics training camps and have personally met and observed wnba players in practice. so i have qualifications to back up my statement, son. what are yours? armchair qualifications won’t suffice! i can tell you without hesitation that there are many female basketball players who can compete with men. the meac is not the acc or the big east. and candance parker is not the average female athlete, she’s “arguably” the best female basketball player on the planet! how many starting guards in the meac are “truly” 6’5” or taller? i haven’t checked but i’d guess not many! she’d shoot right over most meac guards and she‘d definitely start at my alma mater and yours too! she won a “men’s” mcdonald’s all-american slam dunk contest! so she can jump and she’s a consistent 3 point shooter. she’s been coached by a hall of famer who is better than any coach the meac has to offer! her fundamentals are as good as any guard men or women in the country. do you know what basketball fundamentals are? what are your qualifications? since you apparently know more about women’s basketball than me, why don’t you state some “facts” why she couldn’t make an meac men’s team? and not just armchair opinions… _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ oleschoolaggie, coming to an hbcu near you... |

ksmith,
I think you got the story wrong. I think the Lady Vols regularly pummeled the male practice squad teams. 'nother thing: This young lady was the best player for arguably the best womens basketball program/dynasty in the best basketball-playing country in the world. Can't start in the MEAC? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

Nope!! She couldn't play against men PERIOD!!!
oLEaGGIE - I know you are enjoying coaching your daughter but never delude her into thinking she can play with the men. It ain't so. BTW, just because you are coach, AD or Commish doesn't mean you have the answer to that ridiculous notion. Candance starting against men in the MEAC. How crazy you sound. Really!! Why do you think the Lady Vols scrimmage with guys who have JV(HS) level skills? Those men the Lady Vol's workout with are bums!!! None of them could play in the CIAA or MEAC. They are basically college intramural dorm jocks. Chris Everette; tennis HOF member, said it best. She said that Martina and herself couldn't defeat the top 300 rank college males. That's out of the mouth of a HOF tennis pro. Top 300 college!!! She said the top 300 college MEN would whup her and Martina's arse easily. Nuff said!! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Howard U......Black America's University. |

But none of us played b-ball in the meac that I know of. She's 6'5 and she can play all 5 positions against WOMEN ball players. Playing against the men is a entirely different story. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Jackson State's cut from the SCG |

...and what would she do against another 6'5" man from the MEAC?
Get her feelings hurt that's all. Hell I'm 5'7" and would dare her to get by me. She would have to pull up because she couldn't go through me at all. Couldn't back me up at all and most men in the MEAC under 6 feet have the speed to beat her to any spot left or right. until you've step on the court and have first hand knowledge of the skill level of professional women basketball players, i refuse to get into a debate with folks who are ignorant of the subject. neither you nor ksmith have first hand knowledge of the positions you take... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ oleschoolaggie, coming to an hbcu near you... |

CANDACE WOULDN'T COME WITHIN 30 FT. OF MY BEDROOM.
I FIND NOTHING FINE ABOUT HER. WHOOOOO, GLAD THAT'S OFF MY CHEST. I'VE TRIED TO WATCH A WNBA GAME, (MY GIRLFRIEND LOVES IT), BUT I'D RATHER WATCH BILL O'REILLY RANT, OR GRASS GROW. FACTUALLY, THE ONLY TEAM THAT GETS ME IN FRONT A TV IS THE UNIV. OF CONN. WOMENS TEAM. SOMEONE ABOVE SAID THE GAME ISN'T "GIRLISH" ANYMORE, WHICH IS A BIG REASON I'M NO LONGER A FAN OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL. WHEN IT WAS "GIRLISH" IT APPEALED TO ME BECAUSE I TIRE SO MUCH OF THE "SUMO" WRESTLING THE MEN'S GAME SEEMS TO THRIVE. LAST YEAR MY SUPERVISOR, WHO USED TO PLAY HOOPS WITH ME AT THE YMCA TOLD ME HOW MUCH A LOCAL WOMEN'S, COLLEGE TEAM COULD PASS PHYSICALLY AS MEN, EVEN DOWN TO THE SAGGING BRITCHES, & OVERSIZED SHIRTS. THE DAY I QUIT LOOKING AT THE GAME WAS WHEN THE 1ST WOMAN DUNKED. AND I SO MUCH LONG FOR THE DAY WHEN I SEE A FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYER WITH A "RACK". I ASKED MY GIRLFRIEND WHY ALL THESE WOMEN DON'T HAVE A BOSOM. SHE SAID IT'S THE SPORTS BRAS. UNH UNH! I'LL ADMIT CANDACE DOES HAVE UNIQUE CAGE SKILLS. FURTHER, I'M AGAINST THE PRACTICE, LITERALLY, OF MALES COMPETING AGAINST WOMEN IN PRACTICE. IT FURTHERS THE WOMAN'S GAME TOWARD THE MASCULINE GAME. WNBA FANS, Y'ALL CAN HAVE IT!!! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Tis better to light a candle than curse the darkness". |

I'm going to do a rare thing and agree with Ksmith on this one. There is no way a 20-year-old woman can play on a men's college basketball team. I don't care how good she is. The men are bigger, stronger and faster than her. Did you see what the Fowles chick did to Candance in the Final Four? It would be that way all the time if Candace played with the men. I love Candace Parker. I really, really, really do, but there is no way she could play with the men. The game just would be way too fast and physical for her. It's one thing to play against a 6-5 college woman, but nothing compares to playing against a 6-5 man who is stronger and can jump out the gym. Talk about losing a jockstrap, Candace would lose her sports bra if she tried to woman up aganist a man. The 12 man on Davidson could put up 30 on her. Tyler Hansbrough was the player of the year and I swear that dude was working as hard as he could to score. Plus, even the shorter guys are stronger and faster than she is. Oh, I know the whole story about the Tennessee women playing men. Those were not elite college basketball players. Those were guys off the street. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0216/nba_g_dhoward_412B.jpg |

Interesting that you accuse me of NOT having first hand knowledge of the skill level of women basketball players and you don't know who I know and WHO I've seen. Just because YOU got abused by a woman basketball doesn't mean a woman can play with a D1 MEN B-ball player. There's a reason why women don't play against the men. Look, I covered Alisha Hill, Andrea Gardner, Denique Graves AND Channel Washington of Howard University (all of them made it to the WNBA, granted not for long) and NONE of them were able to compete against the men team here at Howard and the men team SUCKED while they DOMINATED MEAC competition. Heck I was busting the guards azz when I was in school. Also remember the Women play with a smaller ball. I played with the ball, it makes shooting it a WHOLE lot easier. Give that small ball to a D1 player and he's lighting up the place. There's a reason Pat Summitt NEVER asked Bruce Pearl to scrimmage his boys. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Jackson State's cut from the SCG |

my bust..........I thought ksmith said that Candace Parker couldn't start in the MEAC on a womens team.
I can't say if she would or wouldnt: start the MEAC, hold her own vs. equal talent....... but why it is even a discussion? its not going to happen. Give her props for doing what she does against the competiton that is lined up. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

I can’t believe some people can not see her beauty. She has model looks.
The WNBA have had a few cuties but none on her level (Nikki McCray was fine). She looks good on the court and a knock out with her make-up. She can really help the league by doing a swimsuit layout in SI. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Time can be your best friend or worst enemy. |

You can't go that far about her looks. Okay..."she's light skinned".
OleAggie: Your qualification withstanding you will note that I added comments from a HOF tennis pro to give some perspective. Your..."theory" at best is something nobody can be qualified to access. Unless you have some virtual program you can run you can't say for a fact Candice could compete. I don't care if you sleep with Pat Summitt. Furthermore, your comment is offensive to MEAC basketball and it's players. Shame on you!! Really....you are showing how you truly feel about HBCU sports. one irony is that she probably scored more points and logged more minutes in her 1st game as a pro than her boyfriend has in 3 years as a pro.

Well as an ex MEAC basketball player I will admit that Candace Parker is a beast on the court. When I played we had some dominate players around the MEAC that was just as good as Candace is. Pit her against the MEAC teams of today and she'd dominate no doubt, but the caliber of MEAC players of today, doesn't compare to what I've been up against and have seen at my time in college in the early 1990s. I respect her skills as a 6'5" basketball player...thats complete talent. I won't say she can't beat all men but there are some out there that'd she'd definately put an azz whooping on.
