The WNBA should have a day of thanks to commemorate the night in the mid- 1980's when Candace Parker's parents conceived her. With two minutes to go in the fourth quarter of her first pro game she has 30 points 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

From a sports management and business perspective it will be interesting to follow Candace Parker and WNBA over the next two or three seasons to view whether she can create a more significant economic platform for professional women's basketball (and other women's sports for that matter) in this country.

The WNBA has a lot of talented players but none was talented & attractive as Candace. That has to help the league.

She is a talented cute pie. Thumb Up

Had she been able to have gotten taken by the Liberty, the League would have had the two bookends they need to make even more folks pay attention to the WNBA.

I'm still surprised they haven't gotten with some cosmetics firm to come up with some form of light "players makeup", that they could safely play in and look a bit more "made up".

But then again ...
If they also had all the teams playing in "Hooters-style" shorts - and essentially dress LESS like the fellas - their ratings would shoot through the roof! Big Pimp

What happen to that point guard from North Carolina.

Ivory Latta. She is in her second year. She played her rookie year in Detroit, and she was traded to Atlanta this year. I enjoyed watching her when she was in North Carolina

The issue that hurts the WNBA the most is that the game is marketed to women. Women don't watch a lot of sports. We all know a woman or two who watch sports, but not at the rate it would take for WNBA ratings to jump past the NHL.

And we all know men don't watch the WNBA unless there is some hot chick out there who recently posed for a men's magazine. The WNBA will always struggle because it has to compete with the NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs, MLB and the start of NFL training camp news.

And you know that football rules the world unfortunately.

There just is not a large market for the league to draw attention when you factor in those issues.

Thumb Up cosign! this beautiful young lady is the real deal! and yes, she fine! just what the wnba needed. and trust me, its only going to get better. there’s thousands of little girls all around the country who idolize her and will raise the bar even further in years to come! because my daughter plays, i’ve followed the girls’ game for many years, i’ve known for a very long time that its just a matter of time before the women’s game hits big time. it will draw men to the game by affiliation, that’s what happened to me and i’ve been hooked ever since. for me, it was my daughter. for others, it will be their alma mater or local wnba team. many men don’t give the lady’s game a chance because they think its “girly” ball and haven’t had a reason to watch. now, the lady’s game has fundamentals as good as the men.

candace parker right now could play on “any” men’s team in the meac and probably start! some of you men may laugh, but let’s see you try to guard her. she’s 6’5” and can play all 5 positions. she’ll wipe that grin right off your face real quick…

And to think some of the talking heads critized her for not coming back to Tenn for her final year of eligibility.

Before some of you self rightous folks raise your stinking heads, she's scheduled to graduate later this month.

All they hafta do now is dress 'em less like dudes ... And "accentuate some of the positive attributes" that makes their game unique - physically as well as fundamentally - and they'll have no problem attracting fans and followers. Big Pimp

Also ... The increased presence of female ownership of some of the teams may also likely play in their favor down the line as well, as it may bring a greater awareness of - and open a lot of young girls eyes up to - all of the potential possibilities that may exist in the League OFF the court, and behind the scenes.
