Perhaps the challenge was sold to the schools as a SWAC champ vs. MEAC champ game. And last year game was communicated as an aberration, but it would continue as champ vs. champ. Who knows?

I think having it in Orlando is flawed because you can almost never have FAMU & BCC in it because they already play there for the Florida Classic. And who wants to play in the same city twice.

Maybe the writer is referring to Ford Motor Co...I explicitly remember seeing that MEAC/SWAC Challenges I and II were both sponsored by Ford...and I believe ESPN's involvement was restricted to just owning the tv rights to the game the first two years...but after Ford bolted (before last year's contest was arranged)...ESPN just took control over the whole event after seeing the growth potential...

I honestly believe that the last minute date change from Sunday to Saturday (ie Miles College non-compliance)...in addition to predicted inclimate weather...had an adverse effect on attendance at last year's FAMU vs SU Challenge...

Sponsorship and promotion are 2 different things. ESPN has always owned the event.

2. Did the MEAC/SWAC Challenge relocate due to a promotor issue (as mentioned in article) or was it due to a pre-planned rotation between SWAC footprint and MEAC footprint (part of original plan)?

(1) FAMU & Southern were recruited to try to save face for this three-year old "Bag Of Rocks" Debacle that the two Commishes sold to D'Whyte ... And once they ALL WTFU and realized that if the two biggest traveling HBCU fanbases couldn't fill that joint up there ... "NOBODY WILL!"

(2) Who was the "promoter" they are referring to in the first place?

Either way ... Refer back to #1 for why they possibly bolted.

DSU ...
Don't worry 'bout not playing in front of Tom Joyner and Mickey - and the other handful of folks that'll be there - in an empty "Sit-Rust Bowl" in August ...

"Just get yo' @sses ready to get steamrolled on September 6th ... AT HOME!"

Dude are you nuts??!! The TWO biggest traveling fanbases in HBCU?? Dude, quit lying and get your facts together. FAMU has nothing on JSU when it comes to a traveling fanbase.Eeker

The two biggest HBCU traveling fanbases are easily Jackson State and Southern.

Dude, you can quantify the numbers with simple common sense. It's clearly understood that teams with a decent home attendance average usually have a decent traveling fan base as well.

Magic, you obviously know nothing about DSU's roster, and who's back and who ain't.

You need to read-up my little brother, and be counted as one of the educated. DSU will have a better Team than last year. That's not gonna' necessarily equate into a MEAC Crown, because anything can happen.

We will be in the top three, that's for doggone sho!

While we all know that the winning schools are not necessarily chosen, keep in mind that most coaches (any sport) do not actively engage with the head office. That is generally done by the AD, president/proxy. DSU has a new AD right? So, it might stand to reason that without really paying attention to who won what, who's in where, it's a logical thought-albiet incorrect.

And what's up with the mental leap that they are doing such and so because they want to leave? Huh? WTH?

Believe me when I say some of yall are worse than menopausal women. Good grief. Yall always looking for something to jump out and yell BOO.

As far as DSU being invited, my thoughts probably mirror many folks' thoughts in that they just don't travel well. The conference may have looked at their travel attendance within conference and thought, "Hmmm....not the best choice if you wanna clear the red". Honest to Gosh, it's one of the two schools in the conference that anyone can play on their Homecoming and they won't even float expenses for the 30 people in the band to come. MSU, yall the other one (just in case someone tries to guess.)

Boo hoo is what I hear constantly from Del. State. This article is nothing but LAvan crying and trying to justify that the MEAC is a terrible conference and Del wants to leave. They have been crying this way for some years now.

The only numbers that will validate your claim are the ones you all put up on Aug. 31st ... After all - There IS another team that's playing you all too!

So let's revisit this one after Labor Day Weekend ... Simply "Just Show Up!" ... & Prove Yourself Right!

Where are your numbers to validate your theory that FAMU has better numbers?

So based on your analysis, in spite of JSU's history of leading HBCU's in attendance, one game will make or break it's attendance dominance?! Dude, are you serious? FAMU's attendance, year in and year out is oftentimes less than JSU's attendance, whether it's at home OR on the road.

Come on dude, you're better than that...I think.

"Just Show Up!" ... And prove it Labor Day Weekend.

All this prognostication of what you've been able to accomplish over in MS over the years won't mean a hill of beans if y'all don't all make the trek to Orlando ... So the only Thang that's gonna matter is how many folks you all put in the "Sit-Rust Bowl" on Aug. 31st.

Dude that's not logical thinking at all. How many did FAMU bring to Birmingham for an opening game last season against SU? Since it was the FIRST game of the year, you'd think the numbers would've been higher than 30,000. And to top it off, Southern had more fans than you at the game, so the numbers could easily go 18,000 for Southern and only 12,000 for FAMU, and that's giving FAMU the benefit of the doubt.

When JSU played in Birmingham, the total attendance was 43,000, with at least 39,000 of the fans being JSU fans. That doesn't really matter though, simply because it's only ONE game. It's ludricous to think that a school's entire history would be based on one game, ESPECIALLY if the games' 15 hours away.

As I recall, weren't you the main one complaining about having to play twice in Orlando due to possible fan participation or lack thereof, now you're suddenly claiming attendance dominance over JSU?! Hahahaha!! Dude, you're REAL funny.

FTR ...
Although it's relatively early to call ...

Depending on the level of TJ influence on it .. Word on the streetz so far is that the game might break 30K ... And if it does it will mainly be because of the folks that you all bring from that side of the river ...

So ...

I guess you dont know what "objectively quantify" means Roll Eyes Not only is your technique not scientific...it's not accurate either...It's obvious that you werent present in Bham for last year's challenge because purely based on observation...there were more FAMUans in Legion Field than Jags...Also the last minute date change from Sunday to Saturday had an adverse effect on the attendance numbers...In fact there were people on this same message board who could not modify their travel plans as a result of the change...

Then here you are attempting to compare the attendance between a non conference game to a SWAC championship rivalry game is about as asanine as JSU hiring that water boy Hughes for a head coach...I know you're more intelligent than that JayRob...it would make more common sense to compare this year's challenge with last year's challenge...

Also JSU's home attendance sometimes average more than FAMU's because JSU oftentimes has more home games during the season than FAMU...we avg 4 games/yr while JSU has 5 or 6...

As far as away games...there's no data that you have access to in order to objectively substatiate your claims that decent home attendance equates to decent travel...but let me know when you find that...okay??? Thumb Up

And just because fans choose not to attend a game twice in the same city does not reflect on that school's loyal travelling fan base...it's a reflection of the economic choice driven decisions those fans have to make...C'mon JayRob...use that good ol' common sense, pal Smiler
