Are they selecting by position? If so either Adams or Cook will be left off the first team. Both are POY candidates but play the same position.

No, it's just the top 5 regardless of position. Still, I think 1 of those 2 gets left off anyway.

Good call. I still can't imagine Cook being left off first team. She was probably the mvp for the Aggies. Tough choice either way they went.

Gotta disagree with this one. Jaleesa Sams was clearly the best freshman in the conference. She had similar stats playing fewer minutes than Morton.

I have to tell you I think that Roy Bright was the POY...

Jamar Smith had a great year and I love his numbers, but Roy Bright is without question the best player in the conference.

Nah, Sams was about the 5th or 6th best player on her team (a good team at that, but still). Did she average double figures? These rookie awards usually go to the high scorers from what I've seen. Morton was the starting PG, as a freshman, who helped lead UMES to a very good season, exceeding expectations others had for them.

Besides, I think Sams fell victim to some of the hype she got from her own school coming in. I read somewhere that she was rated one of the top 100 seniors among HS players last year by one service? All I've gotta say is, it must have been a down year then for HS seniors because her performance, from what I saw, did not match the hype. A good MEAC player to be sure, but let's slow down the hype.

Don't like to to into emotional conversations, but your statement about top 100 seniors is groundless...ask how many D1 program would like to have her...hell just ask most MEAC schools Big Grin. Jalessa Sams is a monster and only learning the college BB scene...you should see Bibbs recruiting class next year!

She was a top 100 prospect, but so was Q Perry for HU.

I'd take Perry over Sams. Sams is very good, but Perry played most the year with a thumb she had in a soft cast between games. She still hasn't gotten over it.

She was ranked #33 by Scout.com. and every bit as good as advertised. Ask any Aggie if they felt like she wasn't worth the ranking. She just didn't get the minutes because the top eight players from last seasons teams were back. She had the ability to take over games but often deferred to others because this team could score from every position. She'll be POY in her junior and senior years. Bibbs started to turn her loose toward the end of the season and her true abilities showed, especially in the DSU game when she had 25 points and 12 rebounds and NSU when she had 20 points and 7 rebounds.

And Sams missed a number of games because of a bad knee and did not play because of the A&T depth...your lady continued to play but Sams sat and recovered Confused

I'm sure every other MEAC team would love to have her, like I said she is a good MEAC PLAYER. But those are some bogus rankings then if she was #33. If she was truly the #33 rated player in the year her senior year (and by that I mean WORTHY of that ranking), she would have averaged more than 9 and 5 per game while shooting a pedestrian 40%.

So if she was #33 then I guess Casey Morton was mis-ranked and should have been about what, #25?

jalessa sams is the real deal, no doubt about it. and for anyone to say she did not live up to the hype suggests you certainly did not see her entire body of work...

I just posted her body of work. 9 ppg, 5 rpg, 40% from the field. Nice #s for a freshman, certainly worthy of All-MEAC rookie team honors. But not knocking my socks off.
