LANGFORD DRAFTED BY DOLPHINS
NEW YORK -- Kendall Langford will be playing football on Sundays next season. The Hampton University defensive end heard his name called Sunday morning at the 2008 NFL Draft, learning he would be playing for the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins, who had the No. 1 overall pick on Saturday, selected Langford with the third pick in the third round, No. 66 overall. "I wanted to go to Miami because I felt the team had a lot to offer me and because of the location; it's beautiful down there," Langford said. "I feel like I can come to Miami and show my ability and be an asset to the team." Langford played in all 11 games for the Pirates (6-5) last season, leading the team with 72 tackles. He had 13.5 tackles for losses, which was also a team-high, and he tied with Marcus Dixon for the team lead in sacks with six. Langford also intercepted one pass, forced two fumbles and blocked a field goal. The Petersburg, Va. native finished his career as a Pirate with 236 tackles, good enough for fifth in school history, to go along with 24.5 sacks. The 6-foot-6 defensive end wasn't sure where he would be drafted, admitting to being nervous when his name wasn't called in the first two rounds on Saturday. But he kept hearing that he would indeed be picked, so Langford kept watching. "I have to thank God, my family and my mentors for getting me to where I am today," Langford said. "This is like a dream come true, man ... for real. "I'm still soaking all of this in. I'm excited for real." With Langford's selection today, a Hampton University football player has been selected in 13 of the past 17 NFL Drafts. This message has been edited. I think that he has enough common sense to keep his nose clean and let his play bring him acclaim rather than press about something negative. Your point is appreciated and well made, Tech. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

Seems like the Cowboys have become a real magnet for HU players in recent years. LB Jamal Brooks, WR Zuriel Smith and TB Alonzo Coleman.
Marcus Dixon said the Cowboys called him during the 6th round and told him they were trying to swing a trade to draft him that round or in the 7th. He said they told him they wanted him as a free agent if they couldn't swing it. He had other free agent offers but picked the Cowboys because of the interest they showed. So ends a great comeback story. Now he gets the chance in an NFL camp that he long dreamed of. The dream sustained him through 15 months in prison and propelled him through four memorable and productive years at HU. If he makes it, great. If not, he gets his shot and that's terrific too, considering the abomination his conviction was. Ironically, I'll always remember him for the touchdown catch last fall in the Morgan State game as much as any defensive play, although the smackdown sack he had in the FAMU game is a close second. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ O Hampton, we never can make thee a song Except as our lives do the singing,In service that will thy great spirit prolong, And send it through centuries ringing! |

Works for me. The kid will get his shot. I hope like Hell that he goes in there in shape, ready, full of snake piss and plays like he is better than the rest of them. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

Lee signs free agent contract with Cleveland
By THOMAS GRANT JR., T&D Senior Sports WriterMonday, April 28, 2008 Leave a Comment | Default | Large While Idaho linebacker David Vobora was being recognized on ESPN as this year’s "Mr. Irrelevant" - the final player selected Sunday in the NFL Draft - James Lee was on the telephone. It was the Cleveland Browns who were anxious to offer the South Carolina State All-American offensive guard a free agent deal. One hour later, Lee and his agent reached a two-year agreement with the Browns, sending the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year from one "Dawg Pound" in Orangeburg to another in the Midwest. “Everybody wants to get drafted, but I’m just glad that it’s all over and I know where I’ll be spending my next two years at,” Lee said in a telephone interview. In signing the 6-5,305-pound Lee and reuniting him with former University of Georgia teammate defensive back Sean Jones, the Browns get a mainstay on the Bulldogs’ offensive line the past three seasons. As a senior, Lee helped the SCSU offense lead the MEAC in averaging 401.1 yards per game and second in points scored at 26.7 per game and was a four-time MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week recipient. One of Lee’s best performances came against Hampton when he graded 84 percent, allowed no sacks and no pressures, seven cut blocks, five domination blocks and two knockdown blocks. Lee accomplished this mostly lining up against preseason MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Kendall Langford, who was drafted in the third round by the Miami Dolphins. Another defensive lineman Lee faced during the regular season, defensive end William Hayes of Winston-Salem State, was drafted in the fourth round by Tennessee. The Titans and Browns are slated to meet Dec. 7 in Nashville, Tenn. “I’m actually proud of both of them,” Lee said. “There’s no hard feelings about it.” It initially appeared as though Chicago and Jacksonville would draft Lee after inviting him for a visit earlier this week. Both teams instead went other directions, while the Browns did not select a single offensive lineman. Although the Browns’ Web site indicated the offensive line was one of team’s deepest and strongest positions, Lee said Cleveland was very interested in getting even younger in that area and see him as a player with a promising future as a tackle. “They had contacted me all through the week to let me know that I was one of their top players, but they only had four picks,” Lee said. “They called me during the draft to let me know that I was one of their top prospects.” Lee had initially expressed his desire to play guard in the NFL, but said his experience playing tackle this season will make it an easy transition. He reports to rookie camp this Thursday to start what Lee hopes is a career which will be as successful in Cleveland as another former Bulldog - Hall of Fame fullback Marion Motley. “Right now, I plan to just go in and work as hard as I can and let it be,” he said. “I would love to be a Hall of Famer and my plans are to work to be the best.” http://www.thetandd.com/articles/2008/04....85937458742.txt _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ South Carolina State University Class of 2005<br />"As shadows steal across the way, our love for thee turns night to <br />day...."<br />SCSU Evening Song, Mr. Reginald R.
