A&T is a 1/2 game ahead in second place so the MEAC saw fit to make A&T play MD Eastern Shore for a rainout game. That's not problem. The problem is those dumbasses schedule the game Next Monday at MESU and the tournament starts Thursday of the same week. A&T could have played that game on Monday when they were in MD against Coppin State. A&T has a double header schedule for this weekend in Jackson, MS against JSU. Which means a lot of traveling for the Aggies in a short time. At JSU this week, then at MESU Monday, then at NC State on Tuesday then coming to Norfolk for the MEAC Tourny on Wednesday.

The travel schedule is not nearly as big of an issue as the pitching rotation.
A&T may have to sacrifice a couple of games to ensure their rotation is set for the conference tourney. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |

If the makeup game impacts the standings, I don't see where the complaint is from A&T's standpoint, or UMES's. They've had several weeks to get the game rescheduled since the rainout and didn't, probably thinking it wouldn't have a bearing on the tournament seedings. They made a gamble there and lost. It does matter, so you gotta play the game. That's the way life goes.

I tell you what's the difference. School is out at A&T so there is no impact of staying in Maryland an extra day to play the makeup game on this past Monday. Also the important makeup conference games are determined by the conference office. The conference had no contigency plan. That's "par for the course" in this conference. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The Aggie Jazz |

The make up game will be played Monday in Norfolk so all should be ok. We couldn't have played on Monday the 5th because UMES was still in Johnson City TN and a makeup on that date would have given them 6 games in 6 days. I suspect the MEAC gave us the choice to wait until the end of the season to see if the game would matter. Since it does matter we have to play it. I don't think you can blame the MEAC office for this.

Yes you can. There should be a pre-determined date at the end of the season for important rainout game(s). You never know if the travel involves a FL team vs a northern state team so you plan dates that will make the travel possible when the conference does the schedule. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The Aggie Jazz |

Maybe they do have a rainout date, and that date happens to be May 12. I still think it's up to schools to situate their own makeup games. But that's just me.
Maybe A&T should have stayed around in Princess Anne another day and made it up on Monday, the day after the original was postponed. No baseball teams play on Mondays, anyway, they play weekends and/or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Another question...kudos for wanting to play NCSU, but why would A&T schedule that game 2 days before the tournament starts? You either have to 1) use one of your weaker starters, increasing the chances you'll lose or 2) use one of your main guys and have him unavailable for the first couple round of the tournament? |

Jazz when could they have played UMES? I think we shot ourselves in the foot with scheduling JSU and NCSU so late.

Please Bejeebus, tell me #2 is not worried about beating UMES with the equipment guys. I don't even know why the Coach would even take the first 6 starting pitchers. There's a cost-saving measure right there.

. . Originally published May 7, 2008 Bailey stands up to propel FAMU baseball By St. Clair Murraine DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER Pitcher Julian Bailey kept pleading with FAMU's coaches to bend the designated-hitter rule and insert him into the batting order. A long road trip had taken such a toll on the Rattlers that Bailey got his wish. ADVERTISEMENT He vindicated himself after driving in the run that counted most in a 14-13 slugfest that propelled the Rattlers past Delaware State on Monday night. Not only that, he got the win to move his record to 2-2 after coming on in the sixth inning to relieve starter Tim Schalch. The win was big enough to keep FAMU (17-18, 11-7 MEAC) in third place in the final MEAC standings heading into the conference tournament next week. FAMU still might have a chance to take second place, depending on whether the league will reschedule a suspended game between Maryland-Eastern Shore and North Carolina A&T. FAMU won its series with the Aggies (24-26, 11-6); a win by UMES would move the Rattlers up in the standings. Monday night's victory over Delaware State not only capped a remarkable turnaround by the Rattlers, but Bailey got to prove his point when it counted most. "He believes in himself," said assistant coach Kentaus "K.C." Carter, just hours after the team returned from a five-day road trip. "He was prepared." The Rattlers journeyed to Delaware from Norfolk State University in Virginia to complete a three game series that was suspended three weeks ago (in Tallahassee) by rain. FAMU needed the win to hold on to third in the league after dropping two of three games at Norfolk State. Two wins against the Spartans would have given the Rattlers second place, but they were too lethargic in Sunday's game, Carter said. Monday he noticed that instead of showing fatigue from the trip that began late last Thursday night, the players were motivated. The team had the same attitude on Monday that had propelled it to a seven-game win streak going into the Norfolk series, he said. "I believe that they felt they had something to prove," Carter said. "There is no quit in them. We've gotten back in the ninth inning and won a couple of games." Delaware State was another of those games. Two innings before Bailey's ninth-inning two-run single, FAMU started its rally. FAMU put the game out of reach in the seventh when it scored five runs. Outfielder Darryl Evans doubled in the first run to bring FAMU within one of the Hornets, 9-8. Chris Fullman's two-run single put FAMU on top and an RBI each by Schalch and Jared Jeffries gave FAMU a 12-9 lead that it never relinquished. FAMU outhit Delaware State 18-16, the most hits for the Rattlers in a single game this season. The Rattlers have had 11 or more hits in four of their last seven conference games. This from a team that started its first 10 games 1-9 and struggled to get a hit. "It's all coming together now," Carter said. "They are rooting for each other. You need that at this time of the year." _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ A RATTLER TO THE VERY END! |
