Whatever the numbers were they were good enough to win the trophy then as well.  Congratulations to the Spartan Men! And congratulations to the awesome Hampton women's teams. I wasn't discounting your point at all. I'm actually wondering myself how our point total is only 61 this year (less than years past) even though we finished out much better this year in most sports. We've never finished this high in football and I think baseball & basketball either, yet we accumulated less points. Goody provided the explanation but it still seems weird! personally i don't think it was that close... baseball points are rewarded by the TOURNAMENT not the regular season (as far as i know).
noone can argue (logically) if NSU was the outright best athletic program in 2007-2008. however, there is still ALOT of improvements that i believe we need. the big thing i want to point out is that this past year was not supposed to be our year. i believed that, in every sport we had to comPETE in, that we were at least a year away from contending. now we are the school with the target on our backs. if nsu can do at least as well in 2008-2009 the conference will see the real nsu emerge as a contender in every championship! it looks like DSU and FAMU are positioning themselves as dominant PROGRAMS. SCSU is a juggernaut in football, NCA&T will not be 0-for-forever much longer... competition will be stiff from here on out because NO MEAC TEAM is a perrenial doormat any longer. Parity is a beast in this conference, if the conference indeed splits to divisional play THIS IS THE BEST TIME because it will allow 2 teams to rise up. NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY just wants to comPETE... and looking at the hate on this thread alone, looks like we're doing a d@mn good job _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. I see that NSU and Hampton are getting congrats for men's and women's athletics, respectively. Does the conference recognize the overall/combined department, as well??? SU has owned the SWAC in the overall department, but the last 2 years, JSU has taken over. Until recently, JSU's women's sports used to be atrocious. JSU has won the most men's trophies, but SU was so dominant on the women's side it tipped the scale in their favor overall. Some people don't put much stock into what they consider "minor" sports. But it's a testament to commitment/dedication when each team sport is competitive and has some measure of success. If you're gonna participate in a sport, may as well try to be the best at it.
