That Disney is pulling out of the Florida Classic. But I don't believe he got it right for this year. Here is what has been said:

Just got off a conference call!!

Disney is pulling their sponsorship of the Florida Classic and moving that sponsorship to the MEAC/SWAC Challenge over the Labor Day Weekend. ESPN is moving the MEAC/SWAC Challenge from Birmingham to Orlando.

I'd like to think my peeps got this one wrong and we at least have a contract for this year at least.

Now "CAM" ...

As much as I am probably the biggest advocate for less Classics and playing more games in the TLH ...

Even I can concede that our game vs. BCC is too large - and financially lucrative - to bring back to the current Bragg.

And I'll repeat ...

The "CURRENT" Bragg!
Wink

Now ... As for that game you & "Hee Haw City State" keep wanting to hand million$ of dollar$ over to a city & state that neither of you reside in for literally nothing in return ... "That's also another Thread that we may need to open as well!" Money

I was thinking the same thing.

I find it hard to believe that Disney would turn away a steady 70K+ people for a Labor Day Classic. It's not like they can get that kind of attendance from any other game at that time. Not even the Bowl Game they back.

Could be that they're looking at going more after "QUALITY people" ... And not just settling for a whole lotta aimless Muggz just walking around that haven't been adequately quantified.

Aligning themselves to a Classic they can literally call their OWN, and be able to collect and mine ALL the data from practically EVERYone that attends it - as well as the entire TJMS Family Reunion Weekend ... and for possibly even LESS than what they're currently investing in the Florida Classic to boot - makes all the $en$e in the world.

Money

That's right. They are just a sponsor and the event is owned jointly by FAMU & BCC right??? If that's the case, then you're right about mining the marketing data. I would think FAMU/BCC would just do a deal with Disney to give them access to their database in order to keep the arrangement.

Well if it's leaving, I need to go this year before it ends.

Are you guys getting a brand spankin' new Bragg? If so, what's wrong with the old Bragg? And would it be justified building a new Bragg, considering that you all play so many away games? Confused

Which bowl game does Disney sponsor??? Confused

The "new" Bragg will be a RENOVATED Bragg with overdue upgrades to the facility...

Venom:
Laugh @ "HEE HAW CITY STATE"...when does that contract expire??? If he hasnt already...AD Hayes should be getting an earful of the Rattler discontent with that particular Classic...just like the SU '08 debacle...so that the desireable solution can be reached...

Although not confirmed...these kind of rumors should be used as opportunities to explore and have "Plan B" prepared for worst case scenarios...With the current "value" of the FC combined with its growth potential...I wonder how many other businesses have competed for title sponsorship??? We just cant become complacent and content with the status quo...especially IF the other family theme park in Orlando who owns NBC sports is one of those interested future investors...

The Florida Classic isn't ending. Disney's sponsorship...maybe, although I thought Disney just extended their contract with the schools. I got to do some digging.

Even if Disney leaves, there are other major sponsors associated with the game including State Farm and McDonalds. It's nice to have the Disney name associated with the game, but Disney's sponsorship is not necessary for the continuation of the event.

It would be nice if both BCU and FAMU organized the FL Classic. I like to see the Linx bus one have BCU and the other side FAMU.

"Precisely!" ..

The sponsors you've mentioned are sponsoring the GAME - and NOT because of Mickey tagging their name on it ... NOR because of where it is currently being played.

Disney has essentially only been tossing us a few dollars over the years as their way to ensure keeping all of y'all AWAY from all of their properties, so they can keep jacking Heidi & Lars from Holland, and the Osmonds from Utah at $300.00+/night during that time of the year without y'all scaring them, or having them endure all of that "urbanism" that an Event like ours potentially may bring along with it. Wink

Seems to me that the Consortium loses very little by considering putting the Game up for bid after this year. If Disney leaves, they're gonna leave ANYWAY, so that's loot the Consortium can't count on regardless ... and all the ORL & Orange County are currently doing is collectively tossing us nothing more than "In-Kind" services ... which is probably equal to nothing more than the equivalent of using that dump of a facility for free.

With THREE far superior stadiums in the State to play the game, coupled with the ORL just finally getting in the beginning stages of refurbishing the Citrus Dump, it seems that any city/cities willing to come up with about $700K+ in loot and/or services would be worthy of consideration right now.

Just like the TSU-FAMU game is needing a shot of nitro just to keep folks awake, right now may indeed be the perfect time to explore pumping some adrenaline into this contest as well, and possibly rotating the game throughout the State until the Citrus Dump is fully ready for - and deserving of - our return may indeed be just what it needs to take it to Higher Ground.

I haven't heard that one. If I hear and can relay the news, I'll let you know.

I'd guess "rumor" at this juncture. Wink

Interesting. We survived before Disney was ever a sponsor and we'll survive afterwards. I think Disney feels it will make more money off the MEAC/SWAC challenge instead of the Floirda Classic. I hope FAMU and BCU don't promote any activites at Disney either. Business is business I guess.
