This is the absolute BEST site in the world:

www.creditboards.com

I think QueKaa put me on to it. Since I joined, my credit is now ridiculous Crazy Crazy. I'm getting approved for cards left and right. Got approved on the spot today for American Express. Also, got $20,000 in credit limit increases in the past week Thumb Up

I put this here because no one will read it in the business section. We all need to be informed of certain things going on with the banks. We all need to know how to work things in our advantage. For instance, I never knew it was actually silly to pay off a collection account. Now I know it is. If you can cut out 30 minutes a day on mf.com and spend it on cb.com, you will NOT regret it. TRUST me Thumb Up Thumb Up

All I'll do is tell your friend what I know, and lead her to people who know more. My wife and I are looking to buy a home next year. I didn't want to be like some people who get treated like crap when they look to buy a home. I know people who have 9-10% interest rates. If we applied right now, we'd probably get a 6% rate. I got approved for a $150,000 loan earlier this year. But the clown was talking about 7% interest Handicap. Now, I'd probably be approved for $200,000 with a 6% rate. I walked into a dealership the other day, just to look for a car. Dude was jocking me like it was nothing Laugh. All on a teacher's salary Laugh

Honestly, many people DO have bad credit. I have met some peopel from credit boards who were in the 400s last year. Now, they are in the 700s. Me, personally, I was in the low 600s earlier this year. Now, I'm right at the low 700s. By the time I buy my home, I should be close to 775-800.

FAMU Cliff, I will hit you up with some info. let me just give you a few credit card myths:

1. Your credit score improves when you pay off a collection
2. You should close down accounts you don't use
3. You should not have too much credit

People assume your score will improve when you pay off a collection. Well, it is true sometimes and not true in others. What I do now is offer the agency a pay for delete. Tell them you will pay them if they delete it from your credit file. If they don't, well, to hell with them. They are the stupid ones because they won't get their money. Think about it: Why would you pay those clowns a DIME if they don't agree to take it off of your account? Also, why close open accounts? Utilization is the key. I once went to this mortgage lady to get some counseling. I was 23 at the time. This fool told me to close down like 6 accounts. Thank God I didn't do it. That can only hurt your score. I have used $12,000 of $13,000 in limits at one point. That is about 92% utilization, which is horrible. You are in the danger zone there. 25%-30% is ideal. Just think if you had that same $12,000 out of $50,000 in limits. You'd be at 24% utilization. Right now, I am at about 17% utilization, the lowest I have had in YEARS Eeker. So it is silly to close down accounts, and anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong.

However, there are exceptions to every rule. Thumb Up

That's another thing. Don't pay any of these clowns offering to "repair" your credit any money. It's a waste. You can do it on your own for free.

Just go over to cb.com. They have knowledgeable professionals in every business profession: mortgage brokers, loan officers, etc. They are VERY helpful too. if you guys go over there and join, like I hope you do, PM me and give me your login name so we can communicate there. Thumb Up

Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

Actually DK, while I know you were playing, your assumption would be incorrect if you were serious. The ones with the bad credit, a lot of times, are the ones who are blowing a bunch of money eating out and doing things they can't afford. They don't realize that they actually have to pay that money back.
