I'm officially in the market for a router for my computer. Since I'm netless at home with my computer, and my brother has the DSL on his computer, what options do I have wrt space and effectiveness. My computer's in the basement and his is 2 stories up.

Question 1. Are both computer system desktops or laptops or both?

Question 2. Are both computer systems located on the same side of the house?

If you want to go the easy way and not spend alot of money, just get the Linksys WRT54G router. It's VERY simple to setup! All of the firewall and security mess is just a way to get you to spend more money on sh*t you don't need!

I have one of those and the only thing you have to do is turn off your broadcast of your SSID and turn on MAC filtering. BAM... that's it and your wireless connection is secure as a bank! If you need any more info.. Just let me know!

Wireless N is the latest technology. I have a linksys Wireless N router that I run on a Windows PC and connect wireless with my Mac Book Pro which has built in Wirelss N. Faster

Personally. That technology isn't that much faster when you are going from computer to computer. Plus, you can't get any faster connection though your ISP. I have tested the Wireless G vs. Wireless N here at work and it's only a 21% increase in speed. I'm not telling anyone not get to it but just wait for the price to drop. That's all.

I've notice a difference on my apple with built in wireless-n. My wife has a Dell laptop with G and she does not get the same speeds.

I got a Linksis Wireless G router. Now I'll have to tell you all the prognosis of it when/if I can get it installed. But on Black Friday @ Best Buy, they were gone at a price of $49.99.

AT&T is sending me a router/broadband modem combo for free. Does anyone have any info on these combos? Also, if it works out, I'm looking to sell my linksys N router.
