Something is fishy about this one... how did you just magically end up at someone's house and not know what was up?

How about this....how about, let's not touch anybody. Okay. Although what was described doesn't seem excessive, it's just easier to follow the rules. Geeesh.

My question is....why did E'ERBODY have to slap you before you decided you didn't want to be hazed??

If she said "the first time I was hit, I was out" then I could roll with her. But, this is just a "change of heart" on the part of this "victim". Roll Eyes

Doesn't matter weather she suspected something or not. Hazing is hazing. I suspect there are also violations for having activities take place off campus. They're probably facing a lengthy suspension.

Where in my sentence did I justify hazing? Roll Eyes

She had to know what was going on..... Or she would have never been at the house.

^^Wrong!!

I don't agree that she had definitive foresight. But, once the hazing began, she should have left immediately. IMO, if she didn't (and allowed herself to be beaten), then she's just as guilty as the hazers.

The hazing should never have begun.

I agree. I never condoned the hazing.

This is how I see it, everyone knows that robbing a bank is wrong and we are all aware of the consequences. If I decide to rob a bank and you drive me to the spot, you are automatically an accomplice to the crime and will do time. It doesn't matter if you change your mind once we arrive.

I think it's lop-sided that only the members are punished when both participate in the crime. They were in it together and should go down together. That's all I'm saying.

She KNEW what was going down. Plus, I doubt that it was just a bunch of smacking. That isn't how these "sessions" go down. I'm sure there was some other activities BEFORE she got slap that were underlined in the anti-hazing packages that we all got before we got on-line.

Plus, I know this chapter and trust me they don't mislead their people on how things operate once you get online.

You have more insight than I because I definitely know nothing about the history of the chapter.

As for your "smacking" comment, we're in agreement that it didn't take her being smacked by everyone to know that something was wrong. As far as I'm concerned she's an accomplice in a crime.

I think letting the "victims" off scot-free is as dangerous to our orgs as hazers. Pretty soon, folks might see the same opportunity that groupies do jumping into bed with celebrities and major athletes...an opportunity to scheme and get paid.

I agree, but we have to do better than the celebrities. We know better than to screw around and HOPE we don't get caught. There are two NPHC organizations that have felt the deep sting of "hazing gone wrong." It's not fun and it's not cheap. It does take TWO to tango. Our orgs need to make sure that we are not supplying participants.

Besides how selfish and inconsiderate do you have to be, to put your organization at risk, so that you can indulge your need for power and control?

Hazing is also about intimidation. She could easily say she reported to the location out of fear; true or untrue. Also some people want to be a part of an organization so badly, they think they can endure anything that done to them until reality slaps them in the face (pun intended). Bottom line......if orgs follow the rules then there's nothing to worry about.

I'm all for pledging the old school way...Of course hurting someone should never happen but something has been missing ever since they've eliminated the old process. Anyone who says there's no difference is not being honest. We've become far too sensitive in my opinion. Do some of you realize rights of passage, embarrassment where all part of the college experience (even if you did not pledge an organization) in the old days....no wonder we've got so many soft leaders nowadays nobody knows what pressure is all about and how to basically work with folks who you may not really get along with. It's sad.. Believe me there's nothing like seeing a line of men finally come to the point where they are prepared for anything you challenge them with. When you see the love they have for each other..even between some that you could tell really did not get along. Or watching them just breeze though things that 5 weeks ago they would have given up even when you know they have not slept much. Or watching them get all A's because you've had them studying 2-4 hours straight every day. There are so many other examples but my favorite is watching a line cross over and a pledgee who thought you were so hard on or even hated you ends up being closer to you than any other brother because he understood that it was important to you for him experience a tough pledge routine. I had the pleasure of pledging my best friend in college. Unfortuanately a young man died pledging Que that year (at Hampton) so everyone was really nervous. I never laid a finger on him during the pledge process but I can guarantee if you ask him to this day who was the worst brother that pledged him he will without hesitation say my name.

Bring back pledging......

Mr. Band. You fail to realize that the type of pledging you fondly recall stopped existing long before our organizations outlawed hazing.

The pledging you remember was replaced by brutality, barbarism and humiliation. It wasn't the national offices that ended pledging, it was the idiots who substituted degrading and inhumane practices for well established pledging procedures.

Yes you are correct to be quite honest people have gotten a lot dumber! Why in the heck would I need to hurt someone who was on line. You can pledge them...put them some pretty fun and physical stuff without hurting them...You can get "intense" without anyone getting hurt....But like I said you are correct if idiots replaced it what you said.... That's about as silly as the girl scantly dressed on Daytona Beach deserves to have boys put hands all over her and in her. Rules and laws don't change by where you are or how you are dressed. Perhaps she thought she was going to be educated at the house not slapped around.
