I have signed up for these too classes at the Aquatic Center.

Here's my question......

My trainer wants me to add swimming to my routine since he can't seem to shake me up on his other workouts but I CAN'T SWIM.

Can I get the same benefits of swimming from water aerobics and water walking?

I do want to learn how to swim too but I don't think I will be a strong enough swimmer for the workout he wants as a beginner. Roll Eyes

Swimming burns more calories than water aerobics or water walking.

Some of the water exercises that are done in deep water involve wearing a buoy to keep you upright while you exercise, so you may not need to be able to tread water to do them. They burn more calories than exercising in shallow (waist to chest deep) water.

If you feel like your progress has stalled you should look into taking some swimming classes. You could still get a good workout while working your way up to the more advanced stuff.

I wouldn't call myself a great swimmer, I basically just avoid drowning! Laugh My daughter challenged me to see if I could tread water for 10 minutes. I didn't have to move very fast but I certainly felt like I had a little bit of a workout when we were done. Crazy

No, that's not strange. My son is the same way. (Of course, he's seven! Laugh)
j/k Angel

We were in the pool today and he just decided he wanted to try to tread in the deep end. He did pretty good too....in between the frantic cries for help! If you can do all that, learning how to tread water and swim won't be that hard. Really! Big Grin

I started water aerobics this week. I LOVE it too. Just started and already have to miss class. I have to travel the next three weeks for work. But I ususally swim when I stay in hotels so I can at least do that.

You love it too!!! Thumb Up
Ok, I've had 2 weeks of water aerobics and I am absolutely hooked. I weighed in this morning and loss 5.8lbs for the week. All I did was the water aerobics and stayed "on program" for WW this week.

My goal this week is to get to the gym 3 days and water aerobics 2 days. Smoke

I did water aerobics and swimming when I was pregnant.
I had to stop riding my bike--but I needed somethng that was going to keep me in shape while pregnant.

I was very pleased with the results frm the water aerobics.

Maybe once you get comfortable, you can look into swim lessons.
Swimming really burns calories and tigtens you up.

I probably wont start back until late April/May since in Tallahassee all are pools are outdoors even though my class went the entire year. I just couldn't do it. I have been trying to figure out why there are no indoor pools in Tallahasee. We do have some winter cold days.
