I firmly believe that exercising in the morning yields the best results. Understand that losing weight and keeping it off requires a lifestyle change. Change is the key word. Drink plenty of water, stay away from sodas, junk food, and fried chicken that other folks cook. If you a beer drinker (like me), drink a light beer (Amstel Light is off the hook).

And eat cereal. Instead of eating a big breakfast, eat a bowl of cereal in the morning. It will fill you up, and clean you out.

Make changes down the line with your eating and exercise habits. Count your calories. When you look at those calories being burned on a treadmill, no way will you eat a slice of pound cake that contains 400 plus calories when you know you have to run 3 miles to burn that pound cake off.

Good luck.

Any suggestions on cereals to eat? I usually try to eat the Special K, Post Raisin Bran, or Frosted Mini Wheats. Is that okay?

I have been using a Soy Protein Meal replacement for months. It works along with exercise.

Don't worry about the time the fact that you can go for 1/2 a minute is good. I started about 2 weeks ago and could only last about :30. Now I'm up to 20-25 minutes. My goal is 45 minutes.

UPDATE:

I'm down to 214lbs. as of this morning. Thumb Up

I've begun my running career and that has helped me in a number of ways. I'm dropping both weight and inches. I'm using the Peachtree Road Race (10K) as the launching of my running career. I would LOVE to run it in 48 minutes, but I will definitely shoot for less than 55 minutes.

Once I'm done with the Peachtree, it'll be on to a 5K in August. I'll basically move back and forth between 5K and 10K races in alternating months.

I'll keep you posted.

After doing my cleanse I'm 17 pounds lighter. So I'm back to "fuffdom" at a nice 198.

It seems like you are off to a good start. The mind comes first and then the body. Developing routines concerning exercising and food selection makes a big difference. Wink

Alright, I did my practice run this Saturday morning and let me adjust my projected times.

Anywhere between 55 min. to 1 hour 5 minutes would be just fine with me. The weather will certainly play a role. As well as how loose I can keep the calf and achilles during the race.

Well I did it in 1:08. My running partner didn't train and so we had to walk 4 times (Imperial Fez, Heartbreak Hill, The Bridge and the High). I really couldn't be mad at him because he carried me last year and we posted a pretty similar time of 1:09.

He ran the Atlanta ING Marathon in April and the conditions were so terrible (few mile markers, not enough water, etc.) that it burned him out. He had only run 3 times since April.

I felt REALLY good and I'm certain I could have come in at around 58 minutes, but that's fine. My goal for next year is to run a few 10Ks and run them well enough to earn a "chip." I believe for the P'Tree a documented time under :55 will be good enough for a chip.

I'm still at 214. My body shape is MUCH different. I can feel another weight reduction about to take place since I'm firming up so of those "loose" areas.

i have found some soy products to have more fat, calories and sugar than non-soy products. make sure you comparison shop.

Okay...so what is your overall goal? Just to lose or lose, tone/firm and build muscle?

Also, what is your height and age range?
