Why does it have to be in 20 minutes? Is that an arbitrary goal that you set for yourself or what?It seems that since you're jogging, those other 23 lbs.will come off anyway.Good luck with reaching your goal.

I guess if you're walking very very slow. Well, it's better than getting your handed to you in an aerobics class. Laugh

Well, 5 years ago (at the age of 35) I could hit 3 miles in 30 mins. consistently. I stopped running 4 years ago, but picked it back up in March of 07. Now, I am up to running 3 miles in 34 1/2 mins. and 2.5 miles in 28 1/2 mins. My goal is when I run 3 miles, to get back down to 30 mins. Also trying to get under 190 lbs. (I am at 195 now, down from 206 lbs. in March, height 5-9 1/2) Not making any New Year's Resolutions, but I think when Lenten season comes, I am going to eliminate something from my diet that is really gonna help me lose some more lbs. I too, am a victim of a voracious apppitite... Sob Been that way since my early-teen years when I was rail thin and hoopin' and playing tennis everyday.

Well my wife set me up with the Nike + i pod gadget and shoes to better track my runs. I've never trusted the treadmill readings. I ran this morning, and finished a 5K in 20:20, and crossed the 3 mile in 19:46. I've basically dropped 3 minutes over the last month with consistent training. That is also a lifetime PR, even better than when I'd run a 5k race for conditioning heading into my senior season at FAMU.

Three miles in 20 minutes is serious booking. Congratulations to those who do that time. I'm an airborne shuffle type jogger, at almost 53 years old, I run three miles in 30 minutes.

Threadmill readings are pretty accurate. It is my experience that I run a little faster outside than on my treadmill.

Not in my case. I don't believe they have the ability to measure stride patterns. Case in point, compare my splits from the 5K I ran in November to the one I did on the treadmill yesterday with the i pod. For the first mile I ran 6:41 in November and 6:23 yesterday per the i pod. I crossed mile 2 in 14 minutes in November, and 13 minutes yesterday. I finished the 5k in 23 mid in November, and 20 min low yesterday. Nearly all of my improvement came from being able to maintain my pace. All the while yesterday, the treadmill told me I'd run 2 miles. That's a lot more than a little slower, it's a mile off after only 20 minutes. I had the treadmill set on 6.0, or 10 miles a minute, which is where I've found comfort in being able to open up my stride. To run at a pace where the treadmill says I'm going 6:30 a mile feels like I'm sprinting, and I don't have to work anywhere near as hard to run a mile that fast outside.

I'm going to run the ING Half Marathon at the end of March. It'll be my first half marathon and I'm looking forward to it. I'm shooting for a time around 2 hours which will place me around 9.2 minutes per mile.

I've run the Peachtree a few times, and I trained pretty well last year and felt really good. I've got 3 months to get ready and I'm looking forward to it. I'll keep you posted.

you making me feel bad about the college weight i have put on. In HS i ran cross country, indoor and outdoor, so needless to say i was well under 20 minutes. 9 years later i probably cant walk a mile in 30.

My guilt has me in

Today was my first run in quite a while. More of a warm-up and recharge than anything.

I did 2 miles in 16.5 minutes. I've got 2 more runs this week at 2 miles apiece before I increase to 3 next week and then 5 after that.

Then come February and the beginning of the big dog runs Cool

1/2 marathon HERE I COME!!!
