Exactly. Cooking for someone on a first date is an absolute no-no.

I totally agree with this. I gotta know you before I will eat your food. But, dating for 2-3 years????? Come on, cook the brother a meal.

Like my mom use to say, "if you can read, then you can cook". It may take a while to get it just right, but practice makes perfect.

I have had a few unique ones...

Once in Atl I call and asked a young lady to meet me for a jazz brunch. I knew her favorite color was purple so I had gotten a purple orchid and placed it on the table. She liked that but unbeknownst to her I had also purchased four dozen roses and had made arragements for thewaiter to bring out a dozen every 15 minutes after she ha arrived. The other women there were impresse and were constanly giving me props to her....Made for a real good night.

Another time I was in Sprinfield IL and I had a young lady come up from Atl. Of course I met her at the airport with roses. Later that eveningwhen we went out...We hit four spots. I had bouquets of flowers waiting for her at each spot.

Areally unique one I had was a blind date to Vegas. I was working in Atl and my date was in NJ and neither one of us had been to Vegas. We arranged it so our flights arrived in Phoenix around the same time so we could take the final leg into vegas together. The first time I saw her was coming down the escalater and the first thing I saw was legs (they were a L,of a pair).I quickly got a hold of Ceasar's Palace and had roses adorning the suite.

I guess you can tell I really like flowers ( got into the habit of flowers when I was working in Boston and would buy fresh ones every day for the apt) but I try to make giving them a little more exciting than just having them delivered.

It's been "years" since I've heard these words come out of a woman's mouth here in the DC/Maryland metro area, "let me cook dinner for you". It does not happen! They either "can't" or just "don't and won't" cook. Menu chicks, that's what I call them.

I LOVE to cook for people!! I learned that you just can't invite anybody up in ya crib until you get a better "feel" for them and who they are.

I get competely turned off when a guy asks to come to my house as opposed to an outing. Why do you need to be sitting up in my house?... and vice versa. I don't even know your black azz.

Nope, don't take me to Kings Dominion or Six Flags - it'll be a waste of money because I don't ride rollercoasters. I can ride the carousel and do the bumper cars, though! Big Grin

Don't take me to a club either. Thumb Down

Can't tell you the last time I've been on a "traditional" date...

I usually do more of the group social thing so that I can see his normal behavior and interactions and vice versa. Especially with someone I don't know that well. I also usually "meet" somewhere. I don't get in their car or have them come to my house to pick me up.

I tend to get offended when a guy asked me where I live or if I cook very soon after meeting me. I feel thats very presumptuous.

I also REFUSE TO PLAN DATES! This gets on my last nerve! If you ask me out, then have a frikken plan for it. I hate indecisive people! I completely understand that you are going to ask me what I might like to do or if I would agree to do a certain activity. But dayum, YOU are the MAN and YOU asked ME out so get it together.

My two most memorable dates...

A broke (but very creative) guy in college. He rented movies and we toasted marshmellows over the fireplace and talked. It was very sweet (and cheap), but ok bc I'd never done anything like that before.

The other was at an amusemnt park...that was the best. I was all over that park (water rides and all). Had a blast bc he was willing to go on any ride I wanted to go on.

I've been on lots of dinner and movie dates, but I like to experience things I'd never done as well as get outdoors and let my hair down.

Yeah, no cooking on the first date. LOL

All of the good suggestions have been taken!

One note: If I do take someone out, I'd be more inclined to take them to either a favorite of mine, or one that they mentioned. Going to a place unknown by both of us can be a crap shoot. I may do it, depending on how daring I am and how much research I have done on the place.

Going to fun places like Dave & Busters is cool, so is bowling. You get a chance to laugh and interact in a more comfortable, lively environment. Thumb Up

I can do rollercoasters and bumper cars Laugh , but I don't do clubs on a first date. Too many people around, and it's just the right atmosphere for me. If we go with a group of people at a later time, that may be cool, but no thanks, I'll pass.

I know what you mean. A few years ago, I dated a white chick where we had dates and no money was spent. We just enjoyed the scenery and talked. It blew me away.

One of the best dates I had was hanging out the park, and then going swimmming.

It was a chance to talk,to get to know the person.

Another was simply going to several different places all over DC. It truly was an all-day date, and enjoyable too.

ShereAggie, I already got Julie circled on my calender.
You should also check out next Wednesday's lineup---> Jaspects

these young cats from The House are pretty good. Thumb Up
I got to see them last season and bought one of their cd's, too.

And if you missed Ken Ford at the kickoff a few weeks ago,
you REALLY missed it. Dude ALWAYS puts on a great show.

Dang! I need to get to the DC area Big Grin

There ain't jack crap to do here in Tampa Bay. The hot spots are full of grown azz chil'ren, pussycat dolls wannabes/rejects and Lil John clones (complete with nasty looking dreads and gold(tone) teef). Roll Eyes

Seriously, though with a little creativity it's all good, here. We're surrounded by beaches, water, parks, etc. Also during the summer months there are a lot of concerts and festivies hosted by the local smooth jazz station. I absolutely Heart Heart stuff like that.

Believe it or not a lot of the local churches are looking into creating positive adult atmospheres: night clubs, bowling facilities; social organizations, etc.

But I'm always game for a road trip!!

I feel you on that. If I don't know you, well, I don't want you to know where I live. And I certainly don't care to know where you live.

However, if I have to "pay" to get to know you, i.e., I ain't feeding you, then I don't need to get to know you. We either do it 'dutch', or just go someplace where we can just sit an talk (park, starbucks, etc.). If I'm gonna buy somebody a 'free' me, and I don't even know them, then I will do it for a homeless person.
