ASU student shot on campus

An Alabama State University student was shot on campus Wednesday night.

ASU police and the Montgomery Police Department responded to the shooting about 7 p.m.

The student was shot at close range just outside the entrance to the Alabama Room of the John Garrick Hardy University Center, university spokeswoman Janel Bell said.

The gunman fled on foot, and police have no suspects at this time, Bell said.

The student was shot at least once in the arm, and was moving around shortly after the shooting, eyewitnesses said.

Police placed four orange cones where shell casings were found, but it wasn't immediately clear if the student was hit four times.

The student was taken to Baptist Medical Center South. He was listed as stable after surgery and his injuries are not life-threatening, Bell said.

The student's name could not be released because of student privacy rights, Bell said.

Somebody tried to jack this kid and he wasn't having it!! He needs to learn not to argue with a fool holding a gun.
