FVSU to sign Memorandum of Understanding with Middle Georgia Technical College

Dr. Larry E. Rivers, president of Fort Valley State University, and Dr. Ivan H. Allen, president of Middle Georgia Technical College, will officially join forces Friday when they sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

“This agreement is a general understanding that we will work together on special programs and initiatives that will benefit our students and our community,” Rivers said. “Dr. Allen and I share a vision of making education accessible and affordable to the people of Middle Georgia.”

Allen said, “It has long been the vision of our state to provide seamless education for our citizens. This is definitely a start in that direction and will allow Middle Georgia Tech graduates the viable option of continuing their education at a quality institution, Fort Valley State.”

The signing ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the president’s board room at Middle Georgia Technical College.

“This memorandum means that Fort Valley State University and Middle Georgia Technical College will work together to enhance the lives of people in the central Georgia area,” said Dr. Daniel K. Wims, FVSU Executive Vice president for Academic Affairs. “We want to provide better access to high-quality, affordable education.”

The Memorandum of Understanding with Middle Georgia Technical College is the first of many efforts to increase enrollment at FVSU and strengthen its community outreach efforts, according to Rivers.

Allen said, “Middle Georgia Tech endeavors to continue seeking partnerships in our community to enhance opportunities for all our students. Our mission is workforce development, but we cannot turn a blind eye to those students who wish to continue their education before entering the workforce.”

“Fort Valley State has long been a shining light in Middle Georgia,” Allen continued. “For us to be affiliated with a university with such a rich history only enhances our image in the community. I am so glad that Dr. Rivers has the foresight and the vision to recognize what we can achieve together.”
