May 4, 2007 - Website links husband in Iraq to wife’s graduation at FVSU


Army 1st Lt. Howard Wade serves oceans away from Fort Valley in Iraq. His wife, Sharonita Harvey Wade, an infant and child development major, will graduate from the Fort Valley State University on Saturday.
But when Sharonita marches across the stage during commencement exercises tomorrow, the newlyweds will celebrate the occasion together via the university’s website.
A 2004 FVSU graduate and former ROTC cadet from Riverdale, Wade contacted FVSU’s Information Technology Department asking if the commencement ceremony would be available online as live streaming video. FVSU’s IT Department worked with the Mass Communications Department and the website designers to make the video available.
Sharonita had been feeling low because Howard would not be at the ceremony. Now, she’s looking forward to commencement with renewed excitement.
“Just to know that he’s going to be watching is really special to me,” the infant and child development major said.
Sharonita and Howard have a two-month-old daughter, Laila. The couple resides in Warner Robins.
