A young lady from Columbus has a 3.9 gpa and a 21 on her ACT...but Howard has refused to give her a dime. Her mother is acting funny about giving up tax info for her FAFSA. She's very talented and is desperate about making HU a reality. I know there are alot of deserving students who propably have the same stats...but I really hope somebody with some contacts can make something happen. Let me know whats up.

Thanks!!

This child's mom needs to file an accurate FAFSA in a hurry so that this child can go to school. No sense in mom being indicted for fraud.
With her credentials, her being a presidential scholar someplace should already be a done deal.
Since it's so late in the game for this year, mom may have to bite the bullet this year and strongly encourage the child to do well so that she can get scholarship money henceforth.

Although many factors help to determine the amount you receive, your Financial Aid Award is based primarily on your demonstrated financial need. You must complete the FAFSA each year to have your need determined.Your need is the difference between the cost of attendance and the amount you and your family are expected to contribute (EFC - expected family contribution). Once you are admitted to the University, and your file is complete, the Office of Financial Aid will send you a Financial Aid Award Package

The young lady seems to be in a bad position. If she wanted a scholarship she should have applied early and like someone else said, financial aid is primarily based on need.

I would suggest, if she really does want to attend Howard, that she pay for the first year, keep a good GPA and she may very well receive a scholarship to be applied for her sophomore year.
