AUGUSTA, Ga.---A new president has been selected for Augusta's Paine College. Dr. George Bradley starts in January.

He's currently an executive vice president at Claflin University in Orangeburg.

Dr. Bradley will succeed Dr. Shirley Lewis, who retired earlier this year.

In concluding a national search, Chairman Robert L. Bell and the Paine College Board of Trustees are pleased to announce the appointment of George C. Bradley, Ph.D. as the fourteenth president of the College. Dr. Bradley will succeed Dr. Shirley A. R. Lewis who retired June 30 after thirteen years as president. Dr. Bradley will assume the presidency January 2, 2008. George C. Bradley was chosen by the Board after receiving strong recommendations from the search committee and after equally positive actions from the college and the CSRA community. In choosing Dr. Bradley, the Board and the search committee found him to be the right new leader for Paine College after considering the qualifications of more than forty candidates for the presidency.

Dr. Bradley received his B.S. in Early Childhood Education/Mathematics from South Carolina State University, his M.S. in Mathematics Education from South Carolina State University, and the Ph.D. in Higher Education/Research from Iowa State University. He has several publications in education and has held the following positions: Regional Academic Director for Webster University (South Carolina site); Interim Chair, Department of Educational Administration, South Carolina State University; Associate Vice President of Development, Norfolk State University; Director of Research, Central Virginia Community College; and Research Assistant, Research Institute for Studies in Education, Iowa State University. Currently, Dr. Bradley is a full professor and serves in the position of Executive Vice President at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

In welcoming George C. Bradley to Paine College, Chairman Bell also praised the Search Committee and it's chair, Trustee Dr. Eddie R. Cheeks, for a job well done in conducting the search on behalf of the College.
