Convocation to Highlight Harvey's 30 years at HU

Barbara Ciara to give keynote address

Hampton, VA - Dr. William R. Harvey's 30 academic years as president of Hampton University will be highlighted at the Opening Convocation ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 10:45 a.m. in the Hampton University Convocation Center. A special presentation will be made to Harvey during the ceremony.

Harvey has served with distinction as president of Hampton University for the last 30 years. He has created a monumental legacy during his tenure - one of the longest tenures of any sitting president of a college or university in the country.

The keynote speaker at the ceremony will be WTKR NewsChannel 3 anchor and managing editor Barbara Ciara. Ciara was recently elected president of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Ciara graduated from Hampton University in 2000 and was inducted into the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications Hall of Frame in 2004. The Pittsburgh native has worked in the field of journalism for over 25 years. She has worked as a reporter, photographer, producer and an assignment editor.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Hampton University students, faculty, alumni and friends are encouraged to attend this ceremony, which serves as the official opening of the academic year. For more information call 757-727-5402.
