FAMU Pharmacy fully accredited
Florida A&M University has just announced that it's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has been taken off probation by the Accreditation Council For Pharmacy Education and remains fully accredited through 2010.

Last Friday, FAMU President James Ammons, along with CPPS Dean Henry Lewis attended an ACPE hearing in Tampa to report on improvements made at the university's marquee program.

FAMU was to be notified of the decision earlier today and had scheduled a press conference for this afternoon.

Dean Henry Lewis>>An icon and #1.

Folks this is great news. FAMU has the potential to be a RESEACH leader among HBCUs, Florida schools, and white schools in general - if it stays focused on what is important - educating black folk.

I am liking this Ammons guy already Thumb Up

(By the way, I thought that the Pharmacy school was fully accredited.)

FAMU's pharmacy school has always been fully accredited but was placed on probation last year, because of space concerns (too many students, not enough labs). Howard had this same problem a few years back.

FAMU had to show the accrediting body that they had a plan to address this, and they did.

snake,

I didn't know until now that a school could be put on probation for something the school doesn't even control.
It seems that the influx of students should validate the efficiency of the program, but it appears that too many students can get the school penalized.
The problem I have with this is that schools can't just add space all willy nilly!! Laugh

Yes! FAMU's School of Pharmacy is one of the sixth largest in the nation. The school gets over 1,000 qualified applicants --we're talking high SATs/GPAs--- for only 150 available student slots each year.

We may have to make a serious bid for Dean Henry Lewis's services when we start our college of Pharmacy. He seems to get it done.

Shot Caller I doubt Dr. lewis is going anywhere if he is not getting a provost or presidential nod...otherwise it would be hard to keep him from staying at FAMU...

Walgreens donates $250,000 to FAMU's pharmacy
program

By Angeline J. Taylor

DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER Print Email to a
Drug-store retailer Walgreens, teamed up with Florida A&M University on Tuesday by awarding $250,000 in scholarship money for students in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Representatives from Walgreens joined FAMU President James Ammons and pharmacy dean Henry Lewis III in Lee Hall to make the announcement.

"We are extremely pleased to receive this donation," Ammons said. "It will assist us in our effort to continue to recruit the best and brightest students to the pharmacy program."

Ammons thanked Walgreens and Lewis for supporting FAMU and making the donation a reality for students.

"This is indeed the largest contribution that Walgreens has given to the College of Pharmacy in our 50-some odd year history in operations," Lewis said.

He said Walgreens has always been supportive of the pharmacy program. More than 400 FAMU graduates are employed with the Walgreens Pharmacy enterprise.

Three Walgreens pharmacy managers who graduated from FAMU were on hand for the news conference — pharmacy supervisor Manuel Littlefield; pharmacy manager Elbonie Moore and Pensacola's pharmacy supervisor Jeff Roland.

"It is a pleasure to be here this morning and extend this donation to the College of Pharmacy because this is an investment — an investment that is going to bring more pharmacists into the Walgreens company," Littlefield said.
