Florida Gulf Coast University’s ailing nursing program isn’t any healthier after the latest round of board exams.

Pass-fail rates put FGCU 19th among 20 Florida colleges offering bachelor’s degrees in nursing. Through September, 45 of 62 — 72.6 percent — of FGCU graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses on their first attempt. Statewide, the average is 83.7 percent, and nationally is 86.1 percent.

The Florida Board of Nursing deems it unacceptable for programs to repeatedly fall 10 percentage points below the national average. As a result, the board placed FGCU on probation in April, lasting through April 2009.

Below are the pass-rates of 20 Florida colleges and universities that offer four-year nursing degrees leading to positions as registered nurses:

• Barry University: 95.9%
Bethune-Cookman University: 86.4%
• Florida A&M University: 74.5%
• Florida Atlantic University: 88.4%
• Florida Gulf Coast University: 72.6%
• Florida International University: 84.9%
• Florida State University: 92.9%
• Jacksonville University: 84.4%
• Nova Southeastern University: 97.0%
• Palm Beach Atlantic University: 64.3%
• Pensacola Christian College: 74.4%
• South University: 77.4%
• University of Central Florida: 85.7%
• University of Florida: 96.4%
• University of Florida-Jacksonville: 100%
• University of Miami: 85.0%
• University of North Florida: 93.7%
• University of South Florida: 93.1%
• University of Tampa: 80.0%
• University of West Florida: 89.5%

I was comimg on to congratulate BCU until I realized this list is in alphabetical order, not ranked from first to last.

CATMAN,I take it this was an honest mistake, please read before posting a topic like this as it is very misleading.....actually inaccurate altogether.
Nonetheless, 86% is still good, so good job Wildcats Thumb Up
