RobJay,
I would expect you to know the people who are associated with JSU. I looked at the list and recognized about 15 to 20 names.

Anderson, Rashard (2000 - 2001)
Barkum, Jerome (1972 - 1983)*
Barnett, Tim (1991 - 1993) *
Barney, Lem (1967 - 1977) HOF*
Bradford, Corey (1998 - 2006)*
Brazile, Robert (1975 - 1984) *
Burkett, Chris (1985 - 1993) *
Gordon, Cletis (2006 - 2007)*
Holmes, Lester (1993 - 2000) *
Jackson, Harold (1968 - 1983) *
Johnson, Jaymar (2008-present)
Montgomery, Wilbert (1977 - 1985)*
Morris, Sylvester (2000 - 2000)
Payton, Eddie (1977 - 1982) *
Payton, Walter (1975 - 1987) HOF*
Richardson, Willie (1963 - 1971) *
Slater, Jackie (1976 - 1995) HOF*
Smith, Jimmy (1992 - 2005) *
Tillman, Lewis (1989 - 1995) *

What list do you want from me?
*The players that were Drafted from THE ICON?
*The players that went to the NFL from THE ICON?
*The players that went on to Professional football from THE ICON?
*Pro Hall of Famers from THE ICON?
*First round draft picks from THE ICON?
*SuperBowl MVP's from THE ICON?
*SuperBowl winners from THE ICON?
*Future HOF from THE ICON?

No homie. Gram has yall beat by a long shot.

Gram, SU, Famu, and Tenn St. are the historically the top HBCU's when it comes to football. JSU would come in behind those 4.

Sujagtilidie, I hate to publicly "call out" a fellow SWAC bruh or school on a MEAC board, but I have a reputation to uphold.
Southern and FAMU's history are in no way to be compared to Grambling, JSU and Tenn. State in this arena. The numbers don't lie.

Grambling has sent more players to the NFL and have more Hall of Famers than either school mentioned.

Grambling leads with 118 draft picks w/ 4 Hall of Fame members.

Tenn. state 108--HOF 1

JSU 97--HOF 3

Southern University--64 One HOF

FAMU 64--Zero HOF

Hey, just for laughs, we'll throw in Norfolk State.
Norfolk State 19. Zero HOF (no comment)

As far as name recognition, come on Mach., you know Jackson State has Grambling beat by a nose. Laugh

Blah, blah, blah.

Folks, I mistakenly and IGNORANTLY gave FAMU credit it didn't deserve. I stand corrected. In NO way does FAMU's number of NFL draft picks rival that of Grambling's, Jackson State's or Tennessee State's. It's not even close.

Please accept my apology for this grievous error.

Yeah but what does that have to do with having one of the stronest football programs in HBCU history???

Not a dayum thing Roll Eyes

What did those 97 NFL players do while at JSU??? Did they contribute to more wins??? A greater winning percentage??? More BCF titles??? More winning seasons??? More undefeated seasons??? More 10+ win seasons??? Just to name a few...

Question

How did Hampton's name get slipped into this? Confused and not even from TP, but from a Spartan Laugh
It would have made perfect & common sense to add JSU in place of Hampton since after all they've won as many as NSU, and the thread is about.....well....JSU.
Even though its true that no MEAC school admitted after the 1980s has won a playoff game, aside from that one measure- in FCS im not sure the 2 schools (NSU vs. Hampton OR JSU) should be compared.

FAMU

Confused FAMU was admitted in the late 70s. Maybe I should have been clearer, no MEAC school that was admitted into the conference after 1980 has won an FCS playoff game.

Then we left and returned in 1985 (I think)...

Dude, SU took about 20 years off in football. JSU came into the SWAC 40 years after you and you only have maybe ONE more SWAC championship than us... LOL TNState has taken much of the last 20 years off. Gram, JSU, and FAMU have been the most consistent.

You are so right TP. Which program has had FEWER losing seasons than ANY HBCU since the early '70's?! Jackson State University.

Why only since the early 70s??? Is there something special about the 70s??? What's your source??? Confused

Neither have J-States athletes and HOF's contributed to 1 Single Playoff Victory, or did they, no they didn't. Now that is truly a tragedy. No Biggie though. Congrats to J-State!!!

How many Black National Titles does J-State have compared to FAMU, Southern, and TSU? Here is a hint. It is the same answer as the Tootsie Roll Owl. (A one, A two, A Three) Three

For the record, in spite of their lack of Championships, J-State is still one of the best programs in HBCU History.

Dude, JSU basically scrapped our program for three years and started over. Technically, we are STILL rebuilding it. That is the only reason NSU can even be mentioned in the same sentence as us. You don't want to step on the field with JSU...trust me on that.

Please do a home and home with us. Please. Our band director would probably want to bring the LEGION as well, because he is a Southern grad. And when you visit SPARTA, bring your band as well. Then we shall see who wants to step on the field who who then.
