 Just to clear some lies going on here from the fellow rivals-- Roaches were never a citation, and the cafe NEVER shut down. Most of the violations resulted from issues with the aging facility (its over 100+ years old).Reports showed no students got sick, ALL VA schools had violations, and that city inspections played a role in which Hampton was more strict than many VA municipalities. Good ol' NSU had the second highest number of violations in VA and the building is no where near as antiquated. HU immediately corrected the issues & vowed not to repeat. As always, HU turns the situation around and will make it greater, hence the new 25 mill dining facility largely financed by alumni like myself  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Still wearing thy colors....THE BLUE AND THE WHITE !!<br /><br />c/o 2001- QTIV |

AGAIN, as I mentioned, that was never a violation. Students complaints are not a citation, you gotta pay attention to the sources. And with thousands eating in the cafe 2-3 times daily every single day during the school year, it certainly could have happened & with a number of public eateries (including schools) its more common than folks want to believe. You find enough or the right students- anywhere and anything will be mentioned. Fortunately in my 3 years eating on campus, I never had or heard of such a problem , and that wasn't that long ago. I don't know about 130 but its true, NSU's cafe is prob 75 years newer but came in at #2 of all VA schools with violations at the time which means they are probably not largely attributed to the facility  . I certainly hope that has changed now however. I'm going by the article linked in B Triple's response that stated the building was 130 years old, and the article was dated 2003. Not necessarily that the cafeteria was, but the BUILDING was 130+ years old. Actually, I looked it up and thats correct as far as the building (which is a NATIONAL historic landmark), even though the dining part came later I believe. The first part- Virginia Hall was constructed in 1874, than the other part in 1901, by the Hampton Singers who toured the country giving benefit performances to raise money. I just hope that "Gourmet" Services contract is terminated when this new cafe is built. Worse food I've ever tasted in my life....I swore when I was in school I saw a squirrel throwing up behind a dumpster behind the cafe.
